Was it because we felt we had that > talent...or simple curiosity....or someone else recommended > it/dragged us into it with them? Now you are getting close. Most of us were accidently dragged into whatever " it " was. Compulsory education through the 12th grade, then we accidentally noticed we skipped some classes and couldn't wait for other classes to begin. Which really goes back to the carrot and the stick, does it not? > Does the teacher really appear when we are ready<G>? Or do we go > looking for them? Well, you just asked the SAME QUESTION TWO DIFFERENT WAYS! The presuppositions are exactly the same. " When we are ready " really means, " when our transderivational search patterns are directed in that direction " . Maybe a better question might be, " What triggered you to start learning X? " The trigger is normally a slam in the ass. In fact most towards behavior is because of running for something we don't want. At least until we know better our own motivational strategies and how to make positive choices. Like washing the dishes. Most men don't want to wash the dishes. (Did you see the movie Break-Up, where an entire love match dissolved because her girlfriend wanted him to " want to do the dishes " ?) Bad feelings are the " shoulds " in life. These " shoulds " are taught you by others. And " shoulds " will only motivate you when the feelings are REAL BAD. A better motivator is to notice what makes you feel GOOD enough so you do it. Notice the tone of voice. Notice where your feelings start. Then see the dishes washed, and how clean the kitchen looks. Then notice how good you feel when you are completely done with that job...and take those feelings with you as you do that job... Then use a few repetitions mentally to install those positive submodalities with the task. It takes a bit of practice. And, you can also pull back all the misery that you used to have that used to make you feel bad enough so that it forced you to do it, just to get away from the bad. Now at least you have the CHOICE of feeling bad, or of feeling good.
