Guest guest
My thoughts on this is... When you say 'not falling frequently enough'... it doesn't mean you have to intentionally fall.... it doesn't mean you program yourself to fall.. To me, what it means is... The more you do, no matter how cautious you are, you may find something new, and not know what to do... or encounter a situation where.. you thought you knew, and found out later you were wrong... BUT ... you learn from such situations.. So.... The key is... Do what Doc always teaches us at the workshop... DO the drills with CONFIDENCE.... (it is not cautious or not cautious, it's CONFIDENCE!! Knowing you learned the skills...) and it is OK if we fxcked up... as long as we know why and learn the right way of doing the drill... Near the end of the evening after we had practiced different exercises, a fellow student told the story about taking ski lessons as a teenager. After a bit of time, the instructor told him he was not falling down often enough. In other words, he was being TOO cautious when learning to ski. That story is still reverberating inside my head and how can I use this to enhance the NLP training? Since the next training is next weekend maybe I can fall a few more times then rather than be so cautious I retard my learning.Doc has said many times that we are going to fu** up when we practice doing the different techniques he teaches until we learn how to do them.Mary Nelsonhttp://www.eft4everyone.com
Guest guest
Wilson, I quoted the guy in my study group since that is what he was told and it is still reverberating in his mind in a useful way about 20 years later. I don't plan to program myself to fall doing the NLP exercises. As a student learning I can be willing to fall and get back on the horse, to use Helen's metaphor. Guest guest
Mary et al, I like to think of it as “falling forward”. That way you are always farther ahead when you get up.
