Sorry, it was way too expensive for my blood. Also it was for the AOBTA,

which gave me the idea that it was less for acupuncturists & more for

bodyworkers. I'd also be interested in looking at some highlights though if

someone out there managed to fork up the requisite dough... notice the none

too veiled bitterness at the lack of student pricing? :)

Jeffrey Yuan seminars have a student rate, but you must call them

specifically for it. I went to treatment of auto immune disorders

with divergent meridians lecture and it was remarkable. The only

issue is being able to write fast enough to get it all down. Those I

know who have gone to the eight extras talk (albeit for

acupuncturists) without exception really liked it. I think if you

hear him talk you'll find he's well worth the money.

Hi Tim:

I just attended the AOBTA Central Regional Conference featuring

Jeffrey Yuen on the 8 extras. I also was a little reticent about the

AOBTA sponsorship and that it might in some way be inferior or not

about acupuncture. Boy was I wrong!!! Best seminar I've ever gone to.

It seems that many Oriental Bodyworkers (AOBTA Certified) actually

have just as much (if not more) knowledge of meridians and theory

than do acupuncturists who, in my state, are also required to study

herbs (my own favorite practice). Yuen's lecture was 99% theory with

discussion of simple treatment protocols--acupuncture and tui na

included. He wasted no time in review of pathways going straight to

explanation of history and usage of meridian points used in 8x

treatments. Students would have been hard pressed to keep up. I

recommend taking minimal notes and just listening or recording(when

allowed as it was at my conference) as one gets deeper understanding

with eye contact from the teacher. I think the teachers also

appreciate this instead of talking to a roomful of Du20's.

Don't hesitate to take AOBTA conferences--these people are well

educated practitioners with high national standards and are well

versed in OM theory. Unless the seminar is practice based, you will

probably get some good info--especially from Jeffrey Yuen.

Thanks, Shanna

Yes, J. Yuen is always a heady experience. He takes

off immediately, and never slows down. But it's good

stuff, right? Plus, I always found that bodyworkers in

general have a good " head start " when it come to acup.

learning. I started in acctg and taxation, myself. JG

Hi all

Please know that there is also a recording of Jeffrey Yuen's lecture

on the Eight Extras he gave at the CSOMA 1999 CONVENTION.

You can find the tapes available at:

The 8 vessels are not actual channels but reservoirs, and as such

cannot be depleted.

There are 8 basins with connecting sewers so to say, so that one may

run tide and the other an ebb, but the overall content remaining the same.

Suppose the yin qiao runs an ebb, the yang qiao will be in tide and vice

versa.

These are non-directional and have no beginning nor end.

The most messed up of all vessels is the Dai.

It;s also the most avid vessel to give spectacular results.

Doc,I'm completely confused.I'm getting and inkling of how Donna Eden's system is built on the extraordinary vessels -- in that they relate to the strange flows and belt flow.In the brief readings I'm doing online, these flows move slowly, and profoundly. Is that why working with radiant circuits can create such deep changes?  The radiant circuits move these deeper, more profound channels?Governing and Central meridians are extraordinary vessels -- and it looks like belt flow is as well....http://deepesthealth.com/2008/learning-acupuncture-master-points-of-the-extraordinary-vessels/ Helen

It's just another name for Strange Flows, Radiant Circuits.

There's 8 of them, and they are some of the simpler things about

energy medicine.

I think I've put David Feinstein's article on them in the files???

> In the brief readings I'm doing online, these flows move slowly,

and profoundly.

They come first, BEFORE meridians. In fact Donna mentions that

meridians might be old Radiant Circuits that have carved an energy

pathway because they are used so much.

But those pathways can jump (hyperlink) to where they are needed.

I read the article.

I suggest you go back to Donna's stuff, NOT because the article is

wrong or right, but becaus Donna is much easier to understand, and

Donna speaks simple english.

Okay, good. I've heard David and Donna talk about the 'sea of

And, I know that Donna bases a great deal of her five elements and

meridians on Touch for Health --

Touch for Health owes a great deal to ....

So, I got very confused by the snake swallowing it's tail :)

Hi Helen, Donna said that all the yin and yang meridians join together

at the neck. That was a basis for one of the energy balancing

techniques we learned last week. So, your question about the sea of

meridians raised my curiosity about whether the neck area is the sea

of meridians, or maybe contains part of it.

I do have a tendency to go with what Donna says she sees in real-time

living, moving color, which I notice does sometimes differ from the

text books. How's that for adding to the confusion? ;-)

The neck area where all the yang meridians in the diagram we got

in the handouts in Portland is often referred to as “sky window” – the connection

through the neck between head and torso. Good place to open when energies are

congested, often indicated by a headache.

Thanks Lori, I'll check with Skye (some friends from LA were at the

class) and get the technique....

Don't all the meridians come out from the " sea " at K27?

Hi Judith,

Thank you for the explanation of the " sky window " , I wonder why it was

given that name?

Yes it is yang meridians shown on the handout, though later in the

discussion it was explained further that all the yin meridians join

with the yang meridians at the neck and there are zones on the neck

that correspond with all the organs and meridians in the body. Anyway,

that's what I have in my notes and will stop here as I don't want to

give all the info out, out of courtesy to Donna. Hopefully it will all

be on DVD soon.

Then you have all the chakra chambers at the neck too.

So the neck area is an important and busy region of the body for

energies, a " major shipping channel of communication " (my words) for

the entire body/energy body.

Helen, Considering the Kidney meridian's association with water

element and how when I tap on my K27s, my energy " on " switch, how that

causes every one of my meridians to energize and move in the forward

direction, I see how it could be likened to the " sea " of the meridians.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. Are you sure this is what she

said? Meridians exit the body at toes, fingers, on the head and abdomen. I have

heard it said that Kidney sets the pace and direction of the meridian energies.

Could that be what she was referring to?
