Guest guest
I understand that doctors are not cheerleaders and I understand that doctors are trained to be neutral, indifferent, objective, fact-oriented . . . blah, blah, blah but if doctors dont understand the power of positive reassurance then they are nothing but emotionless robots. I bring this up because recently, during a urine check, the doctor found bacteria. I immediately began asking how, why, when, where . . . but all the doctors could tell me is “they don’t know, this is rare for men, here is a pilland your co-pay for today’s visit is $15†“Goodbyeâ€.  The pill they gave was Cipro, a very dangerous antibiotic. I took two pills a day as prescribed and after three days felt sicker than I have ever felt. My stomach cramped. I had diarrhea, a fast pulse. I couldn’t sleep so I immediately stopped taking the pills and called my doctor. I told him what I experienced and asked is this a side-effect of the drug. He said emphatically “noâ€. It must be a stomach virus, he said and he told me to take Imodium AD to get rid of the cramped stomach and diarrhea and not to worry about it.  Luckily for me, I stopped taking the pills and waited two days before taking the Imodium AD because as I later discovered by reading the warning labels for Cipro, taking any anti-diarrhea medication and Cipro can cause sever damage. Also, reading the warning label I found that all the symptoms I had were listed as side-effects of Cipro.  Do doctors even know the side-effects of the drugs they prescribe? Do they care? I returned to the doctor for my follow up visit and the bacteria was gone. But they then found keystones and another presence of something different. Again, I asked what do I do. The doctor replied “don’t know,†“come back in a week and we’ll check again,†and “last but not least, your co-pay for today’s visit is $15,†“Goodbye.† When I told the doctor that this makes me uncomfortable and causes worry, the doctor smiled and said “don’t worry. Goodbye.†
