I am just repeating what I was told, so don't know. Diane M It is the other way around. Probiotics will not get in the way of antibiotics. The antibiotics will still do their job of killing bad guys. But antibiotics will get in the way of probiotics, since they kill the good beasties along with the bad ones. Guest guest
Unless you make you own yogurt chances are it has been pasteurized. I think California law requires that, even for juices and almonds!!! Many of the good bacteria will probably have been killed with that process. A probiotic capsule from a reliable manufacturer is possibly the best way to restore the "good guys" in the gut. The web says that FOS (prebiotics) to feed those good guys and help them get re-established is a good idea. Some capsules have both probiotics plus prebiotics and others you will need to purchase at least 2 products. Guest guest
And -- maybe some roundworms http://www.news-medical.net/?id=6855Seems that all of us in the industrialized world don't have enough contact with parasitic worms. Tiny helminths (parasitic worms) secrete some hormones -- to turns down the immune response against them. It may be another symbiotic relationship we've adapted. These worms help keep our immune response in check. (one researcher was talking about little tiny worms -- you couldn't see 1000 of them, with the naked eye)Contact with cats, dogs, horses, etc does increase your contact with helminths, which may be why kids and adults with pets have less allergies. You can also take probiotic cultures in capsule form. Especially helpful when coming off a course of antibiotics until well after coming off a course of antibiotics. Helpful anyway. This is especially helpful for people who drink alcohol and want to remain healthy.----
