Group,

What do you think?

What do you feel?

Then explain the thinking and the feelings.

It might be fun.

John La Tourrette, PhD

------------------------

" When you feel fat your food makes you fatter – it does! When you feel slender

your food keeps you slender – it does! You must understand that because you see

people eating similarly with very different results, and you say, " oh yeah, it's

their metabolism, " and we say, what do you think metabolism is?! Metabolism is

vibrational response to your moment in time. Metabolism is the way the energy is

moving through your body, you see. And so *everything* is in response to the way

that you feel. Everything is. Everything is mind over matter. "

Well, unless you want to mention someone like Jack Schwartz, if you're talking

about MOST people, then unless the person who made the statement below wants to

clarify what they mean, I say " horsecrap! "

I used to be able to eat hot dogs, pizza, drink a case of Coca Cola a day, and

still jog 6 miles.

Can't do it any more. No matter how " positive " I think.

Funny thing is, I don't want to eat that amount of those types of food anymore

either.

I LOVE a good chili dog (hard to find, believe it or not. Most people's

tastebuds have been acclimated to " crap " since they were kids and they don't

know any better, so they think " crap " is good food.)

I can eat a couple of GOOD chili dogs and feel awesome.

But there's a real good chance I'll feel even better if I eat a salad with

lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, celery and then some grilled

chicken breast.

And most of the people I KNEW who USED to eat crap all the time and stay thin

can't do it anymore either - it caught up with them, and they have trouble

sleeping and have acid reflux unless they pay attention to what they eat.

I can think POSITIVE all day about the diet soft drinks I like, but they make me

feel like crap. So now I usually prefer water and iced tea.

Then again, I really don't care what other people eat.

As long as they don't try to shove " universal health care " down my throat after

they've caused their own health to go to hell in a handbasket.

Jim

Good point.

When people put up quotes from others, those quotes are normally for a specific

occurrence...but then people take them out of context, and generalize them over

everything.

And then it's not valuable.

Here's my analysis of the quote, followed by a few comments on Jim's

response.

> When you feel fat your food makes you fatter – it does! When you >feel slender

your food keeps you slender – it does!

That's what he (she?) is asserting and trying to get into our belief system.

> You must understand that because

Induction(s)

> you see people eating similarly with very different results,

>That's the almost-fact upon which he tries to sell us the rest via >logic.

Though " similar " is " different " , though possibly not " very different " .

So his premise is biased from the start.

> and you say, " oh yeah, it's their metabolism, "

Linked to the previous part by " and " , the guy thinks for us ( " you " ) and tries to

hypnotise us into saying what he wants.

> and we say, what do you think metabolism is?!

Again " and " , includes us in his thinking ( " we " ) then leaves us hanging for more

after a kind of yes-set.

> Metabolism is vibrational response to your moment in time.

Metabolism is the way the energy is moving through your body, you see.

His definitions, which can be deemed acceptable, insofar as they are

recognized as definitions, ie nominalisations and so relative and

meaningless in a way. Could be easy to buy after the previous yes-set.

I don't understand why he leads us into visual ( " you see " ) unless maybe to

extract us from any felling of right/wrong we might have about what he is saying

?

> And so *everything* is in response to the way that you feel.

Everything is. Everything is mind over matter.

" And " of course... the mighty leap to " Everything " (in bold characters, if you

please).

Oooooh the logic behind that and the following assertions ! Again, easy to buy

if you're in his yes-set.

Seems to me there are quite a number of steps missing, and I wonder

whether it's actually possible to fill them in.

One of them would be " Everything is energy " but what about the rest ? Hummmm

Apart from that analysis, I find the concept conveyed rather

interesting, and wonder " what if it's true, what can I do with this ? "

I like Jim's response, and I'd like to make two comments on that :

> I used to be able to eat hot dogs, pizza, drink a case of Coca Cola >a day,

and still jog 6 miles.

> Can't do it any more. No matter how " positive " I think.

What about your having eaten/drunk so much of those " polluted " your

metabolism so that you can't do it any more at the moment.

What if you find a way to cleanse your metabolism so you could do it

again some time in the future ?

....And maintain it that way ?

> I can eat a couple of GOOD chili dogs and feel awesome.

>

> But there's a real good chance I'll feel even better if I eat a salad with

lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, celery and then some grilled

chicken breast.

Could your metabolism be so " polluted " that you metabolize easily only some

types of foods ?

Admitedly, we could define " healthy " and " polluting " foods (for each of us)

based upon their impact on our metabolism...

Maybe I ask because I'm in a similar spot, and I sooo love some of those " bad "

things that I'd love to find a way to indulge safely... wishful thinking...

<sigh>

In a way, I'd like that quote to be true, but I'm wondering if it is.

Certainly the manipulation and the lack of true logic aren't convincers for me

in this case.

Can I make it true ? Hummmm
