Hi Kerry,

I have Melody's book here and this is what she says about Black Opal-

The most beautiful black opal is found in Lightening Ridge, New

South Wales, Australia. Lightening Ridge Black Opals are the rarest.

It is an excellent grounding stone. Black Opal can be used to

provide insights into matters of the past, present and future. The

presence of the fire that is contained in the stone is a catalyst

for the inner knowing, inner seeing and inner reconciliation of the

information.

It can be used for disorders related to reproduction, depression,

and digestion. It can also be used in the treatment of

dysfunctional eyesight.

Hope this helps-it sure sounds like a beautiful stone!

Blessings and Light,

Beth

Kerry,

Austrailina true black opal is very rare.. most of what is sold

as " black Opal " is really gray/blue opal,, that can be dark, but not

true black. CAlled " lighting Ridge Opal " . I dont know excatly the

healing qualites of that opal.

I do know however that some of the worlds best black opal comes from

Honduras, in Central Mexico.. I have sevral pieces, and in my opinoin

is one the of truest forms of " Black Opal " .. here a link to a piece i

cut for my sister.

http://makeashorterlink.com/?D21935E45

This opal is acutally a basalt host matirx, with opal spun through

out it. Most is what we call " pin fire " opal.. but seams, crystal,

and large potch opal can be found in certain grades. Very expensive

material i saw going for $200 per ounce this past Tucson show. ANd

the stuff is more diffecult to cut than most austrialn opal. BUt my

favoite when i comes to opal, even if its tricky to cut.

Sometimes there just not enough opal in the host rock.. and

sometimes like the piece posted,, is full of it. Yet the basalt will

still hold its porus nature. and why this material can be diffecult

to cut.
