Guest guest
Hi All Happy New Year. I haven't been active at all on the list since way before the holidays...whew...so busy anybody know....last year my son worked at the Tokyo Gem and Mineral Show for 8 days. He made lots of friends of the dealers. One fellow dealing in meteorites gave him a big chunk, well, it's about the size of a big hand and it weighs a ton!!! Not exacatly, but it's super heavy. He told him to get a metal brush and clean it of it's 'rust' then to oil it. My son soon went on his one year Japanese exchange student stint so he is not here in Tokyo now. I'm wondering. I have it sitting on a sideboard with some other stones. Is it radioactive? Is it okay for our health to have it living with us? I don't feel anything bad, but I just wonder as I know nothing about meteorites and their properties. Can anyone enlighten me? hope to hear from you guys soon love light and peace, Barbara
Guest guest
Meteorite is not radioactive but I don't think it can be used in an elixer. It is supposed to be a good stone for connecting with beigs from other worlds. It is usually very expensive to buy so you have a treasure there. The radioactive isotopes present in meteorites are, in part, how they're dated. It's a fascinating process to read about and there's a great deal of information about the dating process online. Hope that helps a bit. In Love, Fabeku Caretaker, Crystal_Spirit list crystal_spirit_2/ *** NEW URL!!! ***
Guest guest
I honestly don't know about it being radioactive or not, but don't get rid of it! A piece that size is worth a lot of money! Even a little stone of metoerite ( here in Arkansas, US) goes for 30 to 50 dollars. Wow! I can't imagine anyone giving one away at any local shows around here! Guest guest
Barbara, Here is some information I found that might help you out. Myths and Misconceptions Because of early movies depicting meteorites as poisonous, radioactive, monster carrying harbingers of doom, there are a number of public misconceptions that need to be dispelled. Meteorites are quite harmless. They do carry traces of radioactivity from the interaction of their atoms with cosmic rays, but they are no more dangerous than earth rocks, or the food you eat. The few traces of radioactivity that these objects do give off can be used to our benefit in dating their origins.
