Guest guest
Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to the world of crystals and stones (just started reading a bit these past few days). Well, I had bought this cool selenite stone, and not knowing water was bad for it, rinsed it when I got something on it. The stone doesn't seem to have the same sheen - it basically looks like it's " polish " is gone:( Does this mean it's properties have been changed? Is there any way to restore its sheen? Also, how else could I clean it if I ever needed to? Thanks!
Guest guest
Hello- > Well, I had bought this cool selenite stone, and not knowing water was bad for it, rinsed it when I got something on it. > First, try not to be too hard on yourself. Virtually everyone I know has had a bad experience or two with things like this, especially when one is just starting to learn more about the stone spirits. There are a fairly significant number of stones that can be damaged by the more commonly seen cleansing methods - water, salt, salt water, etc. Because it can be hard to know whether or not it's safe to soak a stone I always explore methods for cleansing that don't involve salt or water, since both can damage a number of stones. A few notes about that below... > Does this mean it's properties have been changed? Probably not as the stone spirits are pretty resilient. I've danced with stone spirits that were accidentally dropped and shattered into many pieces and after a bit of TLC they were just fine, albeit in a different form than before. Sometimes when we experience things like this it can contain a message for us - sometimes a call to become more aware of how to dance with stone spirits, sometimes even a message of learning to be more gentle with ourselves. > Is there any way to restore its sheen? Unless you have access to polishing equipment it'll be difficult to restore the original polish. However, if it were a stone in my care I'd accept that things happened as they should, listen for any message or greater understanding that might be and thank the spirit for teaching me in this way. > Also, how else could I clean it if I ever needed to? First, in my own experience, I've found that the stone spirits generally need markedly less cleansing than most popular ideas suggest. After all these spirits are largely responsible for very significant cleansing within the Earth Mother herself, on a much larger scale than what they're likely to encounter with us on a day to day basis. That being said there are a number of options that can be safely explored without the risk of damaging the stones themselves. The first is the easiest - LOVE! Simply Loving your stone spirits, honoring them as being spirits (versus some " thing " to be " used " ), dancing with them respectfully and enjoying their presence goes a long way in maintaining a balanced energy within everyone involved, yourself included. Another dance involves placing them gently on the Earth Mother or at the base of a tree for a period of time, taking care to insure that it isn't or won't round, that the ground isn't wet, etc. It's amazing how little time it takes for a stone spirit to fully cleanse and recharge itself when placed on the Earth Mother. The intentional use of smoke (ie., smudging) is another option that won't cause damage to the stones themselves. Burning Sage, Cedar, Sweetgrass, etc. and gently, consciously and respectfully passing the stone itself through the smoke a few times can help clear any dissonant energy it may be holding. Lastly some people will place their stone spirits in the Sun or Moon to cleanse and while this may be a safe idea for some stones other stone spirits can be damaged by exposure to the Sun. For example, Fluorite, Rose Quartz (some), Amethyst (to name just a few) can lose their color when placed in the Sun for any length of time. For that reason it is usually wiser to avoid this unless you're certain that the stone spirit you have in your care can be safely put in the Sun. Selenite, for example, is often placed in the light of Grandmother Moon and this is perfectly safe and these spirits just sing when they meet Grandmother in this way. There are a lot of options that are safe and that eliminate the risk of damaging the stone spirits. It can be quite a task to learn which stones can be safely soaked in water or salt water, placed in salt or placed in the Sun, so generally it's best to avoid those options in favor of those that don't risk damaging the spirits in some way. I hope the above is helpful to you in some way. In Love, Fabeku Caretaker, Crystal_Spirit list crystal_spirit_2/ *** NEW URL!!! ***
