Guest guest
I just left my jeweler. She's a gemologist and smart. Been doing it for 27 years. Her whole family. Very into Crystals and knows all their properties. I picked out a blue topaz which they range in all different colors. And I got pink Tourmaline to go on each side of the blue topaz which is shaped as a tear drop and the setting is white gold. GAWD It's going to be gorgeous. I can't wait. I'm November so all my life I've always thought my birthstone was that goldish topaz and it's not. She had a plaque up on the wall that she got from Gemologist College describing the stones for birthdates and it's not at all the same thing I've always thought. Blue Topaz was known to be December and it's November. Some were correct like July is Ruby but December as she has it is Turquoise or Aquamarine - can't remember which- I'll go back and write them down. ...very interesting. Does anyone realize what is available as the stones for our birthmonth in jewelers is not correct? Colleen
Guest guest
perhaps it's not so much that they are incorrect as there are various substitues available for birthstones. I can see how blue topaz could be used for Nov. to substitute for Imperial Topaz (which is very expensive and rare). Most places use citrine now for Nov. I personally love citrine, I think it looks like crystalized sunshine. Blue Topaz can also be used for December as well as Tourquoise, Tanzanite, Blue Zircon. Blue Topaz (perhaps sky blue or swiss blue) could be substitued for March, which is aquamarine. there are so many interpretations, who's to say which one is right? I just pick m y personal favorite. I'm from Oct. and the choices are Opal (which I love and have many) and also tourmaline (traditionally pink tourmaline, but here again, more substitutions allowed). I'd recommend Scott Cunningham's Gem and Metal Magick for a more thorough listing of gems and their many uses, including that of birth stones. I just love stones in any shape, form or color. Hope this was somewhat helpful, instead of more confusing. Guest guest
Connie, Is there something on the internet that I could look up on Scott Cunningham's Gem and Metal Magick or is that a book? I'd recommend Scott Cunningham's Gem and Metal Magick for a more thorough listing of gems and their many uses, including that of birth stones. ! Guest guest
It's a book. I'm not sure if there is anything that complete on the internet. I could recommend www.peacefulmind.com this site has a lot of info about gems in addition to lots of other stuff as well. Hope this is helpful.
