Please feel and ask questions to see if the person giving the class is aligned with that which you desire to learn. There are good and not so great interactions with any therapist or practitioner no matter what the field. The not so great ones come when the energetic alignment is not in place. Please use your intuition before even choosing a physician. I have asked the universe to only bring me patients that are in alignment with what I can truly help with. All healing is self healing and the physician/therapists job is to tweak and nudge your vital energy to remember what it is like to be in balance. The body has an innate ability to return to health. Holly You should contact your State Department of Health and ask them if it is regulated (which I doubt) in your state. Also ask them if you need any type of license to be qualified to touch the body. Until 2002 Florida had laws that if you were a healing minister you could touch the body, do Reiki even if no other license was in place. However that year the massage therapy license changed and it became illegal for anyone to " rub " or touch the body without a medical or massage license. The DOH ruled that the minister's license no longer gave that right unless they were also a massage therapist. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this. Here is an email passed on to me from the DOH Ministers License doesn't protect you, Ministers license does not provide a license for healing modalities Every few years there is a major crack down by state officials for those practicing alternative health modalities in Florida. I have watched this in the 70's 80's 90's and now 00's. Please be careful and share this info with all who need it. Could you please tell me if there is any church with a healing ministry that is allowed by state law to practice Reiki, Reflexology, Massage, Laying on of Hands and other healing modalities if they have no other healing license in the state. If so could you please tell me which ones if you know. I am particularly interested in the Universal Christian Light UCL or the Alliance of Divine Light Ministries ADL. Thank you for your time, 6/10/03 1:43:39 PM Eastern Daylight Time Betty_Bates Chapter 480.033(3) reads, " Massage " means the manipulation of the soft tissues of the human body with the hand, foot, arm, or elbow, whether or not such manipulation is aided by hydrotherapy, including colonic irrigation, or thermal therapy; any electrical or mechanical device; or the application to the human body of a chemical or herbal preparation. There have been many who have addressed the board concerning Reiki as well as reflexology and demonstrated their techniques for them. It was the decision of the board that since there are so many variations this was covered under the definition of massage and therefore you needed to be a licensed massage therapist to practice Reiki and Reflexology in the state of Florida and they are quite strict on this. The only part they do not regulate is the long distance healing because there is no manipulation of soft tissue. We understand that a minister does spiritual healing and laying on of hands however, when you rub or massage an area of the body then it is considered massage and you would need to be licensed as a massage therapist. I hope this clarifies this for you. As far as I know there are no exceptions of this for any churches. Guest guest
I have to reply to this one as well. A lot of whther you need a license or not is going to depend on what you do with your healing. Years ago, my husband became a certified Reiki Master. We went through a time when we felt that we did not need to be ordained through man, and got rid of several things, his certificates included. Now, that times have changed, in order to set up shop as a practioner in our state, you need those little pieces of paper. Just putting in our experience here. Hope it helps you some.
