Guest guest
Will, Couple of quick questions. > > As a collection of authors, these people > represent a later development in the > notion of latent processes that have been > recorded in the Nei Jing, Nan Jign, > and Mai Jing. Who? I may have missed something earlier in the thread. But what authors are you talking about? And are you reading the Chinese now or are you referring to works in translation? For me these earlier sources > capture the essence - especially > when it comes to diagnosis. When you say " capture the essence " what do you mean exactly? Again, are you referring to texts in classical Chinese? Or is the essence to which you refer derived from translations? The Qing dynast > authors bring forth herbal > treatment ideas, but the original sources hold > the keys to the acupuncture > methods of management in my estimation. I ask these things because I've just undertaken a fairly substantial translation project and I want to revisit the subject of translation and the efficacy of capture and conveying the essence of Chinese medical concepts in English. So thanks for your time and attention to my questions. You suggest many questions that Eti should ask, but you do not point out what sort of conclusions you are hoping to be drawn from the various answers. What would it say to us in Chinese medical terms if there is one lesion or several lesions in close proximity? What do geographical symmetry (or its lack), the size of the lesions, etc. connote in CM? I am very interested to know. What is the date of > the original presentation? Was it approximately 4-6 > weeks ago, or has this lasted for a longer period of time? Upon closer examination, does the presentation one consist of one lesion or are there several lesions in close proximity? Do the lesions present more on the upper body or the lower body. Do you note geographical symmetry? Are the size of the lesions small or large? Are the lesions bright red, dark red, pale,or flesh color? Do the wheals develop and disappear rapidly( from 20 minutes to 8 hours, although they can last 1-2 days) do they take longer to resolve, or do they not resolve? Do the wheals have a regular shape configuration? Or are they irregularly shaped? Are there scales or flakes noted on or around the lesions? Are the lesions firm to the touch? Are the lesions sharply circumscribed? Do you note signs of excoriation? Bloody scabs? Ask your client the following questions: Is there an improvement or aggravation of the symptoms with: Cold, Heat, Wind, Evening time, Vacation time? Dietary Intake? ETOH intake, Is relief obtained from scratching? Or is relief obtained from rubbing? Ask your client to keep a carefully documented activities notebook for 5 days to 1 week and note any patterns. Please combine results of the above with the results of your CM examinations, and plan your treatment accordingly. If I can be of any other assistance please do not hesitate to ask. > --- wrote: >
