Guest guest
The quantity of food available through animals requires five times the land area that is required in growing equivalent energy and protein amount through cereals and vegetables/fruits. If animals meant for food production are denied access to public grazing grounds, this practice (animal eating) will die out due to economic reasons. Fish keep the water bodies clean. On similar grounds, fishing should be disallowed. In any case, our costal waters are so much poisoned by chemicals that we are eating mercury and other harmful chemicals through fish chain. Put it in practice. Grazing on public grounds is not allowed. Grazing leads to de-forestation and flooding. I whole heartedly endorse Dr Rebello's views. Doshi Saturday, September 20, 2008 8:54 PM Re: Deonar Slaughterhouse modernization Dear Shri Doshi: Did you say slaughter house modernization in your letter on Karmayog? Why not total closure of this abomination? Because any number of studies show that meat eating is one of the major causes of global warming. You cannot also overlook the animal diseases and what the meat industry feeds the factory bred cattle in this insane business. I think it was some 35 years ago, the slaughter house at Bandra west (outside Bandra station) was shifted to Deonar under public pressure, and I was one of the invitees at the "inaugural" cattle slaughter demonstration. What I saw shocked me to hell and I immediately stopped eating red meat -- cow, goat, buffalo, pig etc. For some time I continued eating chicken, turkey, ducks and fish. But for last more than 20 years I am totally vegetarian and now even my family is so.
