Guest guest
Dear Friends, This in reference to mails asking for more details about autism symptoms. According to Dr Arun Mukherjee the earliest clinical symptom to present itself could be at 4 months of age. If you click your fingers the child may not reciprocate by moving its eyes. Later on, the developmental delays could be an indication. The progress indicators may be delayed with the child taking a long time to cross the milestones like moving on its side, crawling, walking, speaking etc. (PDD NOS) It is the lack of communication skills that is a dead give away. The child does not respond or take cognisance of the happenings around it. It does not convey the need to eat and defecate. It may not even acknowledge the presence of another in the room or may treat the person as an object. Some children are unruly and can wander aimlessly making a nuisance. They are restless, cannot sit patiently for a time, will have a tough time sitting at its bench in school, will walk around, even leave the premises. The child can also be destructive. Repetative behaviour. Obsessed with a particular toy or object but does not use it as would be expected. At an adult stage may be obsessed with a subject. The child lives in a world of its own, does not participate socially, becomes shy, a recluse. May sit at a corner of a dark room and refuse to come out. Dread for going to school, will create a great fuss at school time. Period of restlessness followed by rage. Fear of strangers, of strange situations. Will follow a routine and have panic attacks if the pattern is broken however insignificantly. At times absolute lack of fear, will walk into traffic. Walk in the ledge of roofs. Very fussy about eating. The mother has a tough time feeding it. Anorexia. Will crave for junk food, sugar, ice creams. May suffer from persistent worm infections. May handle organs, masterbate in presence of others. Play with its own excreta. The hair, nail samples will have very low heavy metal content indicating these metals are not being excreted. Lower levels of glutathione. Severe intestinal colic forcing the child to bend over double. Often the child can only adopt peculiar postures without being able to communicate the pain. SUDDEN ONSET OF ABOVE SYMPTOMS, OR A GRADUAL REGRESSION AFTER A NORMAL EARLY CHILDHOOD IS A SURE SIGN OF AUTISM. I am enclosing an article which may help. Regards, Jagannath.
