Guest guest
Hi, In my training at the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (now TAI Sophia), we studied the 4-Needle Technique as a " last resort " method to use when all other treatment blocks have failed to bring about a shift. So far, I have never needed to use this method. I don't believe in pushing for too much change too fast. I believe it is safer to observe and manipulate shifts more cautiously. Rather than wanting to learn a new point prescription, I would like to know why you think this prescription is needed. What specific signs, symptoms, etcetera are showing up in your patient? What other techniques and prescriptions have you used? What results have you seen? What results are you looking for? How long has it been that you have seen no shift in the patient? Guest guest
I think that the original poster wanted to know 4 Needle technique because it is on the national boards. He didn't refer to a specific patient. Some people, even 5 Element practitioners that I have studied with, use the 4 Needle technique often as a source of different ways to tonify or sedate the elements. If a person's Earth is weak - you could tonify Fire in Fire and Fire in Earth, or sedate Wood in Wood and Wood in Earth... It can be clinically useful. -Anne
Guest guest
Hi, I think the discussion on 4-needle technique was merely for information purposes because someone asked about it in regards to exam preparation. In Korea where the technique was developed there are acupuncturists of the Sa-Am school that use the 4-needle technique, and variations o it almost, exclusively. At Emperors College we were had a clinical supervisor, Dr. Yim Yun Kyung, who taught us some very interestin combinations of 4-needle acupuncture, incorporating tonification of 1 element unilaterally with sedation of another element on the other side. Never knew it could get so involved. She was really devoted to Korean Constitutional medicine.
