Guest guest
>So ... what's MISSING from " The chain of >responsibility for the protection of the citizens in >New Orleans? " >Hmmm? >Who is ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE for the protection of >the citizens of New Orleans? >Here's a hint ... >It is " the citizens of New Orleans. " Agreed. The 1st law of Huna: take responsibility for everything in your life (correct?). In other words: be at cause, not effect. But we all know that most people are NOT at cause, and we on this list are in the minority. So what do we do about that? Should we preach our philosophy to those at effect, trying to convert them? Should we recognize that they are on their own path of development and treat them with compassion? Should we say fuck them, they deserve what they get because they're stupid? How should we deal with them? How should we deal with the folks in N.O.? >> In case you aren't familiar with how our government >> is SUPPOSED to work: >> The chain of responsibility for the protection of >> the citizens in New Orleans is: >> >> 1. The Mayor >> 2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security (a >> political appointee of the Governor who reports >> to the Governor) >> 3. The Governor >> 4. The Head of Homeland Security >> 5. The President >> >> What did each do? >Let's forget about " What did each do? " for now because >this forum is not about blaming ... it is about >learning. >And everyone makes mistakes, right? >And let's set aside the fact that this is NOT " how our >government is SUPPOSED to work " (See the 10th >Amendment) even though it is how the government is >behaving ... Yes. Blaming does nothing but make the masses feel better when the problem is still there. But let's look at the failures of the " system, " not to take blame but to see how we can make it better. When we're born we enter into a social contract...we obey the laws of the government and in return we get a measure of peace and security. Now if you pay your taxes, don't kill anyone, stop when cops pull you over, etc. You are abiding by your end of the contract. But when the government fails to provide adequate aid... ....when cops force women to show their breasts to be rescued ....when the city delays the red cross from entering the disaster area to help because " they aren't ready " ....when the head of FEMA has no previous experience except as head of an organization dealing with arabian horses The government is NOT abiding by ITS end of the contract. It's true, the citizens of N.O. have the ultimate responsibility, but the government ALSO has some responsibility. The government is elected by the people so when it fails...it means we failed. Like I said, I'm not trying to place blame. I'm seeing that there's a problem and I think that we should look for solutions to it. See something wrong, take steps to fix it...isn't what someone at cause would do? Isn't take taking responsibility for your own life? Guest guest
Vince, all. Comments and perspective below... Long thread... you were warned!! " People who see corporations as having and tax advantages, unlimited funds, great lobbying influence within government organizations. Of course any " expenses " that a corporation has or avoids impact what they charge the end user consumer... So " we the individual consumer " end up paying for ALL activity... don't we? > > How specifically did " Corporate Welfare " take over the Government? > Perhaps the view that big lobbyist have so much power in government has some merit. And that could lead to the potential belief that " corporate welfare " has taken over government. As any population grows under a given organizational structure, the lowest rung of that society becomes further removed from the decision making process... for instance, today, many large corporations ASK their employees to contribute to a PAC that supports the Corporation. This fosters the false belief that the individual can not make a difference. .... from a historical perspective look at what happened to the Roman Empire... or the Soviet Union... > What is a corporation? > Legally? An " artificial " entity created to provide ADVANTAGES -- liability limits, tax breaks, organization structure... etc... > Do PEOPLE own corporations? People or groups of people control corporations, whether publicly traded or privately held. > > Can an INDIVIDUAL own stock in a corporation? > Yes. We can. But if I own 10 shares, and the CEO own 10,000,000 shares... who wins? Of course I can choose to sell my shares to a greater fool and take my money and attention elsewhere... If I support the corporation and the corporations support something I completely disagree with who is the fool? (i.e. the corporate policy is for gun control... and if I felt that we already have too much gun control...) > What does all this have to do with Huna? > My personal money and attention are personal energy.
