Well yes we were taught that fats are as bad if not worse than sugar - but to me - even though "normal" medical patients eat whatever they now want (just, it seems, so that they can increase their diabetic medication) it always seemed logical to me that carbs which are sugars are bound to raise blood sugar!

Is this Macclesfield Vic??

Killing Diabetics

Dr Malcolm Kendrick, a GP in Macclesfield who advocates a high-fat, low carbohydrate diet in patients with diabetes, said the study’s conclusions should encourage GPs to reject the conventional wisdom.

‘The reality is that over the years, and around the world we have killed literally millions of diabetics by advising them to eat a high-carb diet and avoid fats.

I found that when I first was treating my diabetes that the "normal" diabetic diet made me worse. I ended up cutting my carbs back to 15 low glycemic carbs (after subtracting fiber carbs) per meal. I stayed on this diet for about a year and my sugar gradually got better (without meds). I am now up to about 50 carbs a meal and my body can handle them just fine.

I do eat fats but only "good" fats----flax seed oil, olive oil, small amount of coconut oil, nuts, etc.

My assumption is that my body needed time to heal itself and that was accomplished by giving my body's insulin production system a rest by eating less carbs and the ones I did eat were healthy carbs: apples, red grapefruit, vegetables, etc.

Well done Jackie - very few of my allopathic patients ever bother to improve things - I was interested to read you say red grapefruit (I was looking at some today and thinking I should get a couple) are they better than the plain ones? Yes, complex sugars (carbs) are still carbs after all!
