Correction - they released a MILLION pounds of uranium in the air between 1951 and 1988. Now they are going to study us to see the health affects. I guess I'm a guinea pig and didn't know it! I wonder if running out in the rain with my shampoo when I was a teenager to wash my hair...will throw off the metrics? I'm feeling a little sick. Bastards.

HERSHBERG: The CDC says the Fernald Uranium Processing Plant outside Cincinnati released a million pounds of uranium into the air between 1951 and 1988. The document says the largest releases of uranium came from the dust filters which failed on a routine basis in the 1950s and 1960s. The study also showed that over 200,000 pounds of uranium leaked into the nearby Great Miami River over the same period. The figures will be used to estimate the doses received by individuals. Those results in turn will be used to study possible health effects. Regardless of what these studies show, residents say neighbors of the plant are dying from cancer. They have tracked higher disease rates in the path of the wind and water runoff from the plant. For Living on Earth, I’m Steve Hershberg in Cincinnati.

OMG Sandy - it's too late. This is the same plant that in the 1960's released 25,000 pounds of radioactive pollution into the air. Can you say "Acid Rain"? I can't imagine that this poses no health threats as they state.

It's a wonder there is any life in this area. No wonder Cincinnati is the cancer capital of Ohio. Luckily I'm on the Little Miami River and not the Great Miami but they are all polluted. This used to be a lovely scenic area where Native American Indians once thrived. There is alot of good positive energy here...in the Earth. Canoe rentals, lovely birch trees line the river...

Did you know the State of Ohio doesn't issue warnings for swimming and fishing in the Ohio River anymore? They just recommend you don't eat any fish you catch more than once per month. Can you say NEVER? My brother and sister in law went boating and swimming on the Ohio back in the summer and it was bad enough then. Do people even know that Fernald did this?

I have to truly consider if I want to remain in this area. On the surface, it looks, feels and seems like a great community. I've lived here all my life. But, at some point it's necessary to reevaluate one's purpose and goals. Daylight's burning and I'm not getting any younger. And as hard as I try to eat the right foods, filter my water, and remain active in writing local reps. about chemtrails and urgent issues...I've probably already acquired a considerable amount of contaminants in my body.

I'd like to know the idiot that thinks this is acceptable and quite an appropriate report for Halloween - pretty scary.

This is very very disheartening indeed (understatement).

Peace - Anna
