Guest guest
This was sent to me today, rather disturbing I think and I am not sure if you are getting this info in the USA or elsewhere on the groups! Marianne Warning over pistachio nuts 30/01/02 17:50:28 The Foods Standards Agency (FSA) is calling for a ban on pistachio nuts imported from Iran after a survey found that 10 per cent of samples contained high levels of cancer-causing substances. The FSA conducted a survey of 227 samples of nut products, nuts and tree fruit to assess levels of cancer-causing substances called mycotoxins, the most toxic of which is Aflatoxin B1. The agency found Aflatoxin B1 levels above the regulatory limit in Balham Wholefoods raw pistachios, Natco Pistachio Kernels and Rainbow Wholefoods Roasted and Salted Pistachios – all products originating from Iran. The FSA has removed these products from sale and a Rapid Alert warning has been issued by the European Commission across all states in the EU. The agency is also calling on the European Commission to consider reinstating a 1997 ban on Iranian pistachios. However, the FSA is reassuring the public that consumption of small amounts of mycotoxins on a single occasion is unlikely to have any ill effects. Guest guest
It's stupid for the government to suggest that small amounts of a mycotoxin are not likely to harm us. The notice below, informs us that 10% of the samples contained " high levels of cancer causing substances. " How is an individual consumer supposed to know if the particular sample of pistachios they brought home and are consuming, is from among the 10% that is highly contaminated, or not? - <marianne2406 ; <FriendsForHealthNaturally > Thursday, January 31, 2002 9:58 AM Pistacio Nuts This was sent to me today, rather disturbing I think and I am not sure if you are getting this info in the USA or elsewhere on the groups!
