Guest guest
Hi All I am new to this group so I would like to introduce myself. I live in Buffalo NY and my introduction to holistic medicine came from my labrador. He developed an arthritis problem at a very early age and after traditional treatment for a year and no postive results I consulted a holistic vet. She is incredible and when I saw the amazing results I became a believer. I figured if it worked for him...... well it could work for me. Since I had no serious medical problem, I decided to start with just trying to build my immune system. I have done a lot of self-eduction on the subject and decided to start small. I went to accupuncture for my allergies/asthma and experienced some success. They did not go away but I was able to manage them pretty easily with a homeopatic remedy. I no longer need nasal spray or an inhaler. That is until this season. I have had a really difficult time with allergies this year. I also suspect a thyroid problem. (anyone ever hear of a connection?) I searched for a new doctor, who was taking new patients, in order to get the blood test for my thyroid. I found one on the recommendation of someone and one of the first words out of her mouth was that as soon as she could get the vaccine, she would give me a tetnus shot since I had not had one in years. I know that I am NOT going to get one, what I need to know are the arguments against it. I am a teacher and I have not gotten a flu shot or hepetitis shot even though they are strongly recommended. I see less of a reason to get an tetnus booster. What are your thoughts on this subject. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to your insights. Peg PS If in fact I do have a thyroid problem, I will be coming back for more advice since I have some real concerns about traditional treatment. I found MSM useful to reduce my food allergy symptoms. Have you tried that? It is a plant based sulfur and I think that when your sulfur level gets low then the whole body suffers from many things. They use this for arthritis, perhaps your dog was put on this too. Liz D.
Guest guest
Hi Peg...I have not had a tetnus shot since 1981. I had a really bad reaction to it...high fever and the pain was unbelievable in my joints and jaw. Dr. said he would never recommend that I get one except the one you get after an injury that makes it necessary to have one. Since I have no real dealings with the type of soil that would harbor tetnus, it just isn't that great a risk. But, I must honestly say that if I had never had that reaction, I would probably get my shot every 10 years. Guess I am just trying to say that it doesn't seem to be that critical to get the shot...been 20 years, and I even got a puncture wound from some rusty scissors, and I am fine I am not sure anything I just said is any help to you...guess I just wanted to tell my story shorty --- pegdun14206 <pdunwoodie wrote: > Hi All > > I am new to this group so I would like to introduce > myself. Guest guest
Peace sister, I am new to the group also but thought I would add my 2 cents on this. As a nurse, working in an allopathic environment for over 20 years now and as a student of naturopathy I have mixed feelings about vaccinations. I, too, refuse flu vaccines even though I am constantly exposed to it as a nurse and have had open heart surgery for congenital defects. I am at a high risk but do not want to compromise my immune system by getting yearly vaccinations for a virus that may or may not arrive during the period you are protected. As for tetanus that is a little different depending on your environment. I care for a small spinner's herd (3 darling angora doe goats who's mohair I spin and weave), 3 laying hens and also rehabilitate orphaned and injured squirrels to release on our land. I am constantly cutting myself on rusty bale wire and being scratched by my hens or squirrels so I am careful to keep my tetanus up to date. If you have ever seen anyone suffer with tetanus it is not only life threatening but something I do not want to experience. Now I do not vaccinate my goats because they rarely injure themselves. If they were constantly wounding themselves on timber or rocks etc. then I would change my mind and be sure to vaccinate them. I know this is probably not much help. Vaccinations for adults are an individual choice. We just weigh the consequences with what we perceive the risk to be and try to make as informed decision as possible. Since tetanus vaccines are only given every 10 years and the disease itself is so insulting, if you survive, I would say yes, have your tetanus booster up to date.
