America's milk changed, and FDA lied to the people. " Trust us, " THEY said. " The new milk is identical to the old. " It was not. See: http://www.notmilk.com/hs/docket.html THEY then came up with a new phrase: " Virtually identical. " THEY even got ex-Surgeon General C. Everett Koop to lie: http://notmilk.com/hs/ckoop.html What's next? Yesterday (October 21, 2002), USDA announced in a 5:20 PM press release that it will begin to allow imports of fruits and vegetables treated by a new technological tool, radiation. Perhaps USDA officials own stock in organic food companies. Any consumer in his or her right mind will just say no to irradiated food. I do not want to eat that stuff, do you? Foreign fruits and veggies will now be bombarded with gamma rays and electrons. THEY say that it's necessary to do so in order to destroy deadly organisms such as E. coli 157. How absurd. Coliform bacteria such as E. coli are so named because they originate in the feces-producing colon of farm animals, and find their way into our environment somewhere south of the colon. Eat meat or drink milk and your food is tainted with feces. Many scientists feel that high energy radiation could have adverse effects on consumers. Many researchers claim that radiation produces dangerous levels of benzene, butane, formaldehyde, and methyl propane in food. You have the right to know what you're eating. If you are not buying organic fruits and veggies, ask the supermarket manager from where the produce is originating. If you cannot get a straight answer, shop elsewhere. They will get the message soon enough. Be an informed consumer. Be a healthy consumer. Your body will thank you. So will your loved ones. Tomorrow (October 23, 2002), the new USDA rule will be published in the Federal Register. Did you even know about this new regulation? I didn't! Will THEY be irradiating milk and cheese too? Radiation may kill bacteria, but it does not lower the pus count. This comes from the pro-irradiation site: http://www.food-irradiation.com/cheese.htm " Since irradiating milk results in distinct off odors, and since there were early reports of off odors when cheddar cheeses was irradiated, further investigation was discouraged. " It all stinks, to me.
