Guest guest
This a post on another group. The greatest toxic source of injuries are from phatmaceutical medicines. Of course, that will never come to the light of day. There are many, many illnesses, that the medical establishment says are genetic, or we don't really know the cause, but are in reality toxic injuries from the pharmacuetical medicines that the person has previously taken. It may be called IBS, fibro, CFS, or many many others. It is also suspected that a lot of cancer is a result of toxic exposure to pharmacuetical chemicals over a prolonged basis. TOXICOLOGICAL INJURIES Finally, we must distinguish between the issue of whether or not our troops were exposed to hazardous materials, and whether these exposures have resulted in the illnesses in question. We must not get bogged down in our zeal to determine who is wrong and forget about what is wrong. Often, I compare government's reaction to this issue as being similar to that of individuals arguing at the scene of an auto accident over who is at fault while several passengers and pedestrians lay on the ground bleeding to death. Our priority must be determining and treating the cause of this illness and in changing our doctrine and equipment to prevent future occurrences. Improper and illegal actions must be dealt with, and these investigative efforts are essential to discourage such actions in the future, but these investigations should be parallel with, and not in place of, the medical research and treatment needed by the veterans. As the interdisciplinary research director with the Chronic Illness Research Foundation, I am concerned that prolonged delay in dealing with these illnesses or the dismissal of toxicological injuries as stress-related disorders will have disastrous consequences. While it is clear that many toxic exposures result in symptoms similar to those often identified with post traumatic stress disorder, and that veterans often need psychiatric care, the misidentification of toxicological and neuropsychiatric symptoms as a stress-related illness will result, not in enhanced care for our veterans, but rather will contribute to ignoring what may be a progressive auto- immune, neuro-immune, or other disease process brought on by toxicological damage.
