BSE Update

You may be forgiven for thinking that BSE - " mad cow disease " -

is a thing of the past. But, according to UK national newspaper

the Sunday Times (1.12.02) it is not. Around 800 British cows

have been diagnosed with the disease this year.

 

BSE can lead to " variant CJD " in humans, which is invariably

deadly. The prions which cause both these diseases are not killed

by sterilization. And it is estimated that they can emerge up to

forty years after they are ingested.

 

So my Christmas message to meat eaters is - don't eat beef.

 

 

What You Can Do For Herbs and Vitamins

On a more positive note, one organisation which has excelled in

fighting for the 'alternative medicine' rights of the UK consumer

is CHC (Consumers for Health Choice). They are a sort of

" Consumers' Association " (CA) without the anti-alternative

medicine bias which we see in that august body.

 

If they are fighting for the consumer (as they are) then that

helps us all - shops and manufacturers too. They get my vote -

and a monthly standing order.

 

What can you do?

 

- Write letters

- Send emails

- Join CHC.

 

Letters and emails - do communicate your concerns and wishes to

your MPs and MEPs. Go to:

Take half an hour today - go to CHC's website and find out how to

make your feelings known. It really does help - please do it NOW!

 

While you're at it, join CHC - who really know how to make our

feelings known to MPs and decision-makers.

 

We went to a reception arranged by them two weeks ago within the

House of Commons. MPs come along, have a nibble and a drink, and

learn more about our cause. It really is the way to inform MPs

about the problems we could face very soon. Then they are much

more likely to help us.

Good grief - it's Christmas next week already! And not a card

written yet (whoops).

 

For me, that means eight days off. Great! - rest, relaxation, no

phones, no postmen, no deliveries... Then we will all be back

refreshed, and ready for a great New Year.
