> description of derealization. And I do believe that the baby's

crying set this whole thing off.

Hi Carla and All;

I'm thinking It might be helpful over time to identify clearly this as

trigger, different from cause. The ayurvedic discussions will show

causees, why we can have less than the energy required to " keep it

together " under such stresses, why the babies sometimes cry so much,

and how to build core strength and integrity of psycho-physiologycal

function to re-realize :). BTW, interesting note thought here, how

the Yogic teachers speak of self-realization as being coming back

home, = enlightened awareness. But enough abstractions.

Fresh air, walking and enjoying nature was very healing

> for the derealization.

and Time working with the wisdom of our own body's design, fortunatel,

when we get more in touch with it, have more sleep, listen to our

natural desires for food, drink, air, sunshine, pace and love :)

I'll exhort some basic familiarizations with Ayurvedic metabolic

theory, and don't stop with one teacher. Every time I hear another

teacher discuss even these simple concepts below, I am delighted with

the many ways/personal insights to be gained!

Looking at in particular, the primary metabolic principle at issue

after childbirth and in related depressions, most commonly. See if

you can you find yourself here:

What the metabolic principle in nature and our bodies Ayurveda calls

VATA dosha is made of, and the essential qualities: Air and Space

elements (not oogabooga here, these are sub-atomic principles/spin

types) which are/is, as we already know, cold, windy, dry, rough,

quick, hits suddenly/sometimes hard, is subtle, and often empty

what VATA dosha is responsible for in human body - movement, change,

nervous system functions, movement of food thru digestive tract,

hearing, speech, menstruation, elimination, childbirth, et al ...

when VATA is in good order gives excellent vitality, immunity,

enthusiasm and joy for life, perfect function of bowel and urinary

tract, things like this - the more you look at these lists the more

correlates you will see...

Then look at what creates easily, naturally, the excess and hence,

easily, naturally, imbalances ... CHANGE! cold windy dry rough

weather, sleep deprivations, travel, childbearing, old age, irregular

habits, staying up late, skipping meals, jother irregular routines,

pain, accidents, cold temp food, drink, environment; wind, sutblety,

details, too much quickness, hardness, emptiness, old foods, foods

sucking moisture to digest, et all

Symptoms of imbalances such as dry skin/emotions/bowels, constipation,

gas, bloating, irregular appetite, thirst, emotions, mental function;

spaciness, ungroundedness, pain, moodiness, excessive talkativeness,

weak immune system, incontinence, blues, depression, anxiety,

obsessive/complusive behaviours, emptiness physically, emotionally,

mentally (derealizations incl), joint problems, marital problems, et

all, look in your books or online studies and see more in this vain

too including schizophrenia and psychosis ... this is not just

postpartum, but it naturally is extreme in postpartum ...

WHat creates balance ... opposites of the qualities, we can refine and

focus with different manifesting symptoms, but they are in this

group/concept framework: warmth, moisture, oilness, creaminess,

soothing, quiet, simplicity, repitition, stability, nourishment,

routine, mothering :), low light in extremes, these things applied to

environment, emotional climate, diet, massage style etc.

It takes time to integrate this into a big picture, but looking at the

basic concepts - see the parallels? Takes some of the mystery away

and is very empowering, I find, for myself and clients as well, with

many things we can do for ourselves and choices we can make for

support in the process. And it points the way to verifying/clarifying

our choices.

Regarding the use of Zoloft and Dr. Tracey's no bones about it

aproach, she DOES offer an audiotape giving you clear precautions and

protocols for safe withdrawal; it is VERY VERY VERY slowly. Slowly 1)

Partly because she does not understand how to deal most effectively

with the accumulated waste products from the metabolic interference

mechanism of the drugs, but proper use of therapeutic quality

essential oils helps tremendously up front here, it is not the same as

" aromatherapy " 2) Slowly because to reset the metabolism including

weak digestive fire natural anyway postpartum and worse with most

women's postpartum diet/culture takes time and 3) slowly because these

situations involve a great deal of accumulated products of incomplete

digestion clogging up the sytstem, needing gengle effective cleansing

(no not fasting or most western methods!!!) this takes time, including

lifestyle and dietary changes many are slow or unwilling to make.

In spite of the yes, scary read you get visiting Dr. Tracey's site,

the big reasons for sending you or anyone there is adjunctive support

to an ayurvedic approach:

1) to get practical tool of her audiotape, in additon to any education

you also want/need/can stomach

2) To get the BIG caution to not undertake self withdrawal without

such as hers AND other wise cousel, because I so often hear oh my God,

so often, of people trying to take themselves off and running into

similar or worse problems than what you experienced, CArla.

3) AND because SO OFTEN I am also hearing of DOCTORS and PSYCHOLOGISTS

taking people off too quickly, maybe 1/2 the dose at a time for a

mediaclly standard " careful " protocol usually over few weeks or couple

months time, which does not protect people from the later all too

common brain downloads/crises, and sends the client from one doctor to

another, generally adding complications and meds. This angers me, I

must say.

So your baby's excessive crying may easily have been from painful

delivery, from predelivery imbalances, from maternal nutrition

pre/post, or any other factors. I do not remember if you said you had

been on SSRIs before pregnancy, or during, but babies also experience

withdrawal. There could be some extreme fear from (if you believe in

these things we can consider also) past life trauma coming up; who

knows!

IN any case, Carla, your sensitivity to Baby's extreme crying ... you

can see the natural causes above, in addition to what our baby's cry

does to our HEARTS naturally ... there are many causes, and all

realted to natural changes undoubtedly not ideally managed. We can't

blame ourselves or anyone else, only learn and move forward in love

and wisdom, one day at a time.

FORTUNATELY!!! babies are much more resilient than we are also, and

even though if un addressed, there are undoubtedly long term effects -

(Dr. Tracy and others are saying creating older children becoming drug

dependent, ADD, etc - but) Ayurveda and many alternative therapies

offer AWESOME tools for helping the body heal. Body chemistries take

time to shift, and again, do not for a minute think going on a western

alternative medicine " cleanse " is the answer, as the deeper tissues

need a deeper as well as genter :) approach. And even if the

chemistries follow the will, heart, and accupuncture meridians to some

extent, with big accumulations on the grosser physical levels, it is

just like a broken bone. THese things almost never can set a

bone(giving conceptiual brief recignition here to the reaally rare

healers with the " almost " ); certain things need more physical

attention first.

Ask, and keep asking, for GRACE, wisdom for each day, and answers. In

my tradition, this includes the role of VEDA or Pure Knowledge, that

which seeks out he or she who is awake inside. Yes, meditation is

also something which helps us find inner grace and peace, if it is

taught in the lineage and hence guidance of a living master and if it

is effortless. THis is essential; people very rarely can teach/guide

themselves or learn from a book. Trying to not try???

But when the physiology is kinked up, we need something like AYURVEDA,

sometimes defined as the Mother of Healing, which is about knowledge

of LIFE for longevity, PRESCRIPTIVE measures and guidance from the

" outside " to correct the blocks, kinks, or other mistakes in the

physiology so it functions, naturally, with its own complete

self-restoring biological intelligence again. Breathing exercises can

be very valuable part of this to enhance the energy level, oxgenate,

cleanse, in support of this process. Enjoying MA NAture in her MANY

gifts and forms is defiinitely key!

Much Love,

Martha
