Guest guest
Martha, I have a friend who is 2 weeks from her due date and has group b strep is there anything she can do to avoid the use of antibiotics during labor prior? How much of a risk is it to the baby? Hope you had a nice trip! Sonya
Guest guest
Hi Sonya; These recent questions are really beyond an AyurDoula's training! We had this question come up earlier in the year, it was about strep throat and Rebecca posted questions also on Ayurvedaonline and then gathered what she found here and there. See the Files (to your left if you are on the site, or go to www./groups/perinatalayurveda and look on the list to your left. In the pregnancy folder. would someone please tell me what group B strep is defined as? It seems to be a rather common issue. In that line of thinking, perhaps there were protocol given in the RMIYA Women's Health Care & Ayurveda. I'm taking the day off, will not go further than the ease of my high speed connection while I digest some lunch today, though Let us know if you find it, ok? I'm sure Terra Raphael in Boulder has Ayurvedic protocols, also Saraswati, and others. If it were my research enquiry, I'd also search the www.joygroup for the essential oils applications, but that takes some searching, big archives! Guest guest
Some good discussions about Group Beta Streptococcus found at www.midwiferytoday.com/forums (do a search once there). A recent issue of their print magazine had an article detailing a garlic suppository protocol. Non-Ayurvedic ideas (including essential oils) can be found here: http://thebirthsource.homestead.com/gbs.html Just be aware one of the herbal preparations mentioned contains Goldenseal-- contraindicated during pregnancy. Often if you test positive once, your caregiver will treat you as though you are positive forever. This despite a repeat negative test. Despite the commonly known fact that this normal flora organism is transitory! I would discuss the issue thoroughly with caregiver as to their standards/protocols. And quickly! There might not be an option to say " no thank you, I decline those antibiotics. " (of course you can always say whatever, but some medical personnel get awfully snarky when you don't consent to their plan...) I think I have a handout, if so I'll add to files if that's all right.
