Guest guest
Hello, A mother in my practice is asking how to care for her postpartum stretch marks. She of course would like to minimize scarring. Her baby is only three weeks old, so the marks are fairly new. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Dear Jivanimark ! We've noticed some guidelines kindly offered by Dr Bhate which promote the use of oils on tissues affected by pregnancy and childbirth. We have assisted several mums with both pre and post partum care using Ayurvedic based care and have some consistent findings in our small experience * At any stage, cold pressed sesame oil rubbed into breasts, abdomen and lower areas daily (we usually start from the beginning of pregnancy) produces near miraculous results. * We often support this with oral amalaki daily and sometimes shatavari We've found that these steps very helpful. We also often recommend Mudra -- which is a kind of interactive yoga and part of Prema Ayurveda which we are trained in -- with husband and wife as at a subtle level we think that any expression of devotion and reaffirmation is part of healing quickly along with the obvious benefits Hope this helps and we're sure that others will have some experience and ideas too Kind regards Mike and Stephie Auckland New Zealand jivanimark wrote: > > Hello, > > A mother in my practice is asking how to care for her postpartum > stretch marks. Guest guest
Hi Kim; Certainly we think the skin needs moisturizing and oleation. The moisturizing factor, however, does not really enhance the cellullar ability to stretch or heal. It is the oleation. Some oils penetrate better than others - for instance, olive oil does not penetrate as well. I am not an expert on all the oils for the skin, I know more about essential oils. I know also that Kristii Ridd Young reports excellent results with a product using top quality essential oils and oleating skin oils together with other good products for the skin. 801-763-7338 http://www.thenurturingplace.com/cmt/88.html. Many use vitamin E, Dr. Gary Young reports best choice if money is no object with his company's variety of therapeutic grade helichrysum, for minimizing scar tissue. Different varieties of same plant species have different effects; also different distillation techniques make big difference. I would add to this myrrh oil and mixed slightly with a thick oil like coconut, castor, vitamin E or shea. I have not tried it, but would expect a licorice ghee decoction would possibly be very healing to the skin as it most definitely is to internal tissues. Guest guest
Dear Mike and Stephanie! Thank you for sharing this. I find that short term use of sesame oil is not as effective as long term use; have seen the results of regular abhyanga for myself this way, having had dry skin since childhood after months of regular use so much better! I had not thought of this due to usually having clients come to me late pregnancy or after the birth. The shatavari is also beneficial for the skin due to hormone balancing, do you think? Again, I had not been exposed to this purpose for it. Warm regards; Ysha > Dear Jivanimark ! > We've noticed some guidelines kindly offered by Dr Bhate which promote the use of oils on tissues affected by pregnancy and childbirth. ...
