Guest guest
I appreciate the offer for a pp doula for my neighbor -- but she's just not there. She had her baby one week ago -- a week before the planned induction. No money for cardiologist she apparently didn't need after all. She had not made the commitment to have me as her doula so she didn't call me even though we had just talked. I was telling her about how we could communicate with the baby to come when he's ready to avoid the induction --- she wanted the cardiologist there. She went to walmart and went into labor when she got home. She only knew she wanted to have connection with the baby after birth -- she didn't. She didn't know about or want a doula even when it was presented that what she wants can be facilitated by it. Her childbirth class teacher had recommended it to only the week I moved in next door -- 6 weeks ago. So, it wasn't within her realm. I never sweat that. The doctor broke the baby's membranes (btw, baby perceives membranes as part of him/her). Fetal heart tones went down so they did an emergency cesarean. Her mother, a cardiac nurse, told me the story and blame (rightfully) the doctor for the surgery. When she read my card she said, Oooooh, I wish we'd known about you. " Her daughter did know. She was not happy with her daughter's tendency to do whatever the doctor says. I realize that sometimes women are in doubt about having another woman they don't know well there --- and yet, every nurse is likely to be a stranger. I am very aware of the baby --- and I communicate with the baby about whether s/he wants me there. ANd, let it go -- it's their birth. I know the earlier we heal the expeirence, the better their relationship and lives, but I also know it all has purpose and correct timing. Perhaps the soul is here to learn about separation (from the Mother/Source/Feminine -- doesn't that characterize our world?!?!)What I have found is that knowing my success at helping babies with colic and sleep issues, a woman will still take the baby to the doctor. Usually the reason is that the insurance pays for that. janel
