Guest guest
A colleague filming for discovery needs to find a Hindu birth or a birth outside or in a teepee for a show on unique births. Please let me know ASAP if you know of someone. Thanks. Janel Zach here at Video Arts. We are now in the final stages of pre-production. Two of our expecting mothers have been confirmed and we are working on locking down two more. That is where you come in and can really make or break this show. The network is requesting a Hindu couple that is pursuing a home birth as well as a couple that is planning on giving birth outside or in a teepee. Obviously, the later doesn't work for locations where the temperature is too cold. Everything is a go; we just need to find the couples. The due date window is from the beginning of December to the end of January. Anytime in January is ideal. I'm afraid this show might go away if we cannot fill this need of the network. If you know any Hindu couples due in and around January that are pursuing a home birth or a couple that wants to give birth outside or in a teepee, please contact me immediately. Your efforts are truly appreciated, as is the opportunity to share the fate of this show with you. Guest guest
If you wish to see exceptional skills of a midwife, who was trained by another traditional midwife in a tribal setting, you should visit India and see how birts are handled by tribal women. Smt. Mastammma, a tribal woman from Hebbalahadi village, Hunsoor taluk, Mysore District, was awarded the Paramparika Vaidya Rathna award for the year 2004-05. Mastammma has handled more than 2000 deliveries, including many complicated cases like breach delivery and entanglement of umbilical cord, in the tribal areas of Hunsur Taluk. She also treats uterine prolapse, menstrual problems, infertility, jaundice and many paediatric conditions. The association of traditional vaidyas in India are trying to revive all traditional medical arts, where experience and " in-born " skills count. Guest guest
Hi All - This is the movie originally aired on PBS I believe. FAscinating footage! The scope of Ayurveda is covered in much greater breadth, though just a piece of it still given the many types of therapies and modalities embraced by Ayurveda. Beautiful movie. There are threaded thru the movie story of a young child with severe bone deformaties and the type of therapies she underwent; many vaidyas totally unknown to Ayurvedic students in the west and their unique gifts and type of practice; the heavy metals proper preparations and safety discussed (but don't try the one master's demo!); long lines of people to see master herbalists every day, and his herb gathering methods; and includes a short piece on postpartum care, with the elder midwife oiling a postpartum mom in sitting position on a hard stone step, better than none for sure! Babies and moms are massaged usually twice a day with warm oil. Babies in orphanages even get twice. Maybe I repeat myself, forgive me.
