Guest guest
Hi Jivani - The two types of cleansing I've heard from my teachers report as acceptable (aside from the agni enhancing panchaloka spices - see a previous post, in the first postpartum week) while still nursing are as follows very briefly. Fasting while nursing led our dear friend Jenny with her first baby to be picked up in the streets in her underwear preaching as I understand it, still written in the nursing textbook her psychosis case. Take care in other words! That said, Maharishi Ayurveda guides mothers in the simple panchakarma home prep steps (oleation, purgation, with modified diet not as much of a mono kitchadi diet when nursing!) followed by abhyanga, swedana and basti according to vaidya's recommendations, whether at home or better, in care of PK clinic. Dr. Gary Young says if a mother clearly has parasitic problems or candida, there are acceptable protocols which can be done while nursing also. His " Cleansing Trio " was designed safe and gentle and effective enough for cancer and other clients, tho vegetarians will want to substitute a different enzyme such as his Essentialzyme instead of the Megazyme in the kit. THat is their way of supporting the agni to help burn the toxins that get loosened and the parasitic dieoff. In candida also agni is very important and we have discussed this in previous posts? Essential oils in capsules can be very helpful. I would have to dig in notes, can't now, to see if after 6-8 weeks postpartum using triphala, psyllium and suitable personalized also agni supportive herbs would be acceptable substitute. I find some mothers don't want to use the herb powders which is how I work rather than capsules or tablets (due to their drying effect) and prefer the packaged deal such as Dr. Young's - which again requires much attention to hydration also. Note of course parasite work requires minimizing most fats except a little sesame or pumpkin seed oil for the first couple weeks, as well as reducing minerals, b vitamins, red meats, all these things feeding parasites. You didn't ask about parasites, so I digress. Yet as we know, nursing mothers have extra caloric needs - from fats as well as carbs, so cleansing from an Ayurvedic oleation type gentle support will be much wiser unless parasites area known issue creating obvious problems at this time. Raw foods/juices emphasis are not going to be an appropriate fasting now, although if she is in Australia it is summertime and with good agni and pitta she can gradually increase those foods in her diet if she feels to. Sometimes the postpartum diet for pittas especially, finds western dietary habit clients needing to give more focus to various methods to increase prana, including from a few well " marinated " or dressed raw things or more fresh fruits as well as simple pranayama, sunshine, lovely gentle walks, like that. I hope this helps. Blessings, Ysha > > Namaskar Group, > > A breastfeeding mom with a seven week old infant asked how soon she could begin doing some sort of cleansing.
