Guest guest
Hi there: Sorry I deleted before remembering who put the question out about eo's and ADHD. While I have no experience with eo's and ADHD, I do have a bit of knowledge about herbs and ADHD, and may have a resource to check on the eo's and such at a later time. Melissa eo would propbably be one, but it's almost impossible to get unadulterated, and to get the real deal to work with in trials and the cost would be tremendous. Will introduce myself first by saying I'm Deb from TN. Have been studying herbs on and off for over 30 years. Been playing with eo's since a trip to London in the early 1990's when I bought my first aromatherapy book and brought back a few boxes of eo's from Harrods. Normally, I make extracts, balms & ointments, remedies and such, and do some custom work. Plus, I help hubby in developing products for two hunting lines of stinky goods. This is our brainstorming and production season. Along with being a Master Gardener, I grow quite a few herbs organically and buy what grows out of my region. Two of our kids have gone into different areas of aromtherapy, herbs and such, by being a bit influenced by all of our books, herbs, and such. Our daughter is in Hawaii and is a Naturapatic Doc, but can't hang a shingle out there. You have to get your degree in Hawaii to do so. She can practice any of her certifications seperately, but alas no shingle. Before moving to Hawaii she developed & introduced a line of baby products for her midwife, and may have some info about eo's and ADHD, etc. Her oldest daughter is/was ADHD and she always took Melissa aka Lemon Balm extract for it to calm her down. Since they are in line for this Hurricane Flossie, I doubt that I can contact her to ask about the oils for a bit, but will try to do so in the near future. On to the Melissa Extract: The thing about Melissa Extract is: Some experts say that it's only holds it strength for one year. How I get around that is I redo/infuse any that I have on the shelf each season and normally have at least a triple strength one onhand. The benefits are: you probably can get by using less of it and can add it to a good glycerin to cut down on the alcohol amount. I have never extracted directly into glycerin or vinegar, only alcohol and then cut with glycerin if it is to be used by children. It can be done in both of the those mediums, but I've never been totally convinced that you get the full benefit of the herb by extracting directly into those two. For those with alcohol sensitivities, you can always add the extract to a warm to hot water to evaporate the alcohol first. There are other calming herbs out and about, whether they will work with ADHD is another thing. Some should be most likely used by those over 12 yo. or older~such as Skullcap, Valerian, Hops, Passionflower, etc. It's possible that a sygnergistically combo would do well and I might could donate a small amount if someone is doing a study, if they would pay for the postage & bottle costs. Hope this is ok to offer to donate, I'm not selling just offering to help a bit. We give back in different ways when we are able to do so. We're a bit behind this year on production due to several things, but I should be beginning some new skullcap extract soon, and do have a small amount on hand and should have most of the others other than passionflower. Keep losing my pf vines due to hubby's mowing, etc., and not having any new to make up. The Valerian will be ready in a few weeks, not much onhand of it either. The oldest son and daughter went whole hog and totally organic while trying to get preggers the last time. It worked, we now have a grandson in addition to their daughter. They have a online biz with organic seed, organic herbs, some extracts, baby products, etc. Sorry for the bragging, just couldn't mention one without the other. (grins) There have been several studies done on Melissa and ADHD. You should be able to do a search and find out a bit about it. Best of luck with your research. Warm Fragrant Regards, deb Looking for a deal? Find great prices on flights and hotels with FareChase.
Guest guest
Hi all, Its Issy here from Glasgow, scotland. I couldnt help noticing what debs wrote about her daughter and son in law going " organic " trying to conceive. I have been ttc for about 3 years now, and I have just turned 39 and im at my wits end. I have suffered from chronic anxiety and depression over the years, made alot worse when I had my first baby loss at 34 weeks 11 years ago. I stopped my long term anti deps 3 years ago....then again I feel they didnt do anything anyway..its my circumstances. As you can imagine it has got worse again with all the stress which wont help. Ive also been the sole carer for my mum who was diagnosed with dementia 7 years ago. She is now in a care home, I visit weekly, and I am responsible for all her affairs. Ive got no other family help except a boyfriend of 5 and half years now, but I only see him mainly weekends as he works many miles away and there is no other way. I have also been studying and qualified in holistic therapies (starting college pt, for 4th year, next month - it gives me something to focus on and take my mind off everything else!!! ). Can anyone give me any advice on oils or herbs...I already take a tincture, but I cant remember whats in it....I need to see my herbalist at some point if I can fit it in!! Guest guest
Hi Deborah I've not thought of Melissa for ADHD, I always think of it as a stimulating oil, but perhaps that's because I find it stimulating :-) Its interesting because there has been research using Melissa EO to help calm the agitation that often accompanies the later stages of dementia/Alzheimer's. I have the paper on that somewhere. I wonder if there could be a link with concentration (just a hypothesis!.) going on rather than a calming effect? There is a grower/distiller/co-op in the UK who produce many home and locally grown EO's, including Melissa. You can vist at harvest time and watch the distillation - then buy some oil so you know its genuine. Good stuff. Thanks for the info LLx On 14/08/07, Deborah Swanson <dsfrogger wrote: > Hi there: > > Sorry I deleted before remembering who put the question out about eo's and ADHD. Guest guest
Hi Isobel Looks like you've had some tough stuff going on over the past few years, and its not surprising your feeling down. I think I would be as well. The best herbal remedy is St Johns Wort, you'll find it in most UK health shops. As for oils - what oils have you got? If we start from what you have we may be able to help you put a *lift me up* blend together. (If your short on oils I may be able to sort a little sample of one or two for you.:-) For now these are my favorite lift me up oils. Rose - the best heartache ease oil of all. Neroli - always brings a smile. That's my *starters* - come on guy's, can we add any thoughts to these for Isobel? Guest guest
Hi Izzy, I've just been looking at the page you set up in memory of your son Aidan, and the fliker pages. I'm sorry you lost your child, I don't understand how anybody who has lost a child can cope ever again let alone get through what you have been through after he died. Do you know a herb called " True Unicorn Root " see if your herbalist can get it. It is good for women who are trying to conceive. I think you can tincture it or drink a tea from it. If you can find a Cranio Sacral Massage Therapist in your area spend the money. If you can't find the True Unicorn Root you may email me off line. I know some other stuff that will help you too.
