Guest guest
OK now we got that nastiness out of the way, lets get back down to plork!! I need some help. The UAE has been approved as 501©3 Public Charity retro to 2006 (thanks greatly to Marcia's help with the wording!), your deductions are tax deductable, and we can now take tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2105, or 2522 of the Code. (Put us in your will!!) We will issue a PR soon, but now I want to discuss with my AFTE group here what is the next step(s). The Board is working hard already, Geraldine collecting, packing, shipping to our 4 Soldiers on the Ground (one new in Korea), Sara keeping the org books, DougE and Dan as advisors. I'm continuing my quest working at the VA. My goal besides steering the boat here is to get some local teams going out in our name to service their local community. So I am looking for a few good men and women (and children!) who may want to help do this. I'm working with the VA to get a paper presented next year for " point of care " (POC) poster presentation in Alternative care (they do have a dept already and are looking at acupuncture, finally got a chiro here in Tampa) but we can take aromatherapy in there with some work. We have a team of 4 of us here who goes out to health fairs, and other wellness programs- sometimes we get paid and we donate to UAE, otherwise its volunteer work extraordinaire! We also have one member (Nyssa) who works on the family members of the TBI (traumatic brain injury) or poly trauma patients injured by roadside bombs (EID's). There are now more than ever before and the VA is having a hard time since never before have they had so many TBIs until the last few years. We want to begin setting up a model for others to start teams. So if you have a VA or a Military Base nearby you, start thinking how you can volunteer there with any skill you have (hands on or off), and if you want to be a part of our teams, please let me know and we can help you get started and supply some product too. My " people " here in the VA can call your people.....and anyone that knows about POC and how to implement I need your input. WEB: another thing we need is help for the website, perhaps design a new one with donation tabs and all our pics (right now they have to go on Facebook) which limits who can see them- before I said it is in php so I am limited, using moreedits.com now to manage but limited to first and supply page.... Brochure needs updating- previous one was a gift from USF student who needed a project for graphic arts class, so anyone who knows students wishing an org to do a project for send them my way- first of the year I'm advertising on campus for projects!! and we need some people who can organize and see thru fundraising events or on line programs..... We could also use some organizational help, such as submitting forms to all states to register to fundraise, and all the other stuff that goes with a non profit. Geraldine has lots of tasks with filling and packing- her dining table is full of recently sent packages (oils from A-Z, pillow liners, Bach remedies, etc) and she has to do all the filling and sorting, recordkeeping, tracking packages, etc if anyone lives near Shreveport she could use a hand on the weekends A new idea I cant forget but cannot run with and maybe Anya can advise on this - about replanting trees over in Afghanistan......Jim says it used to be a garden of Eden with abundant fruit trees, gardens everywhere till the war turned it all to barren mountains and dust. Jim is so starved for seeing trees.....wonder if we could send seeds for the soldiers to sprinkle when they are on foot patrol? Of course, there may be some restrictions on shipping plants but wouldn't that be nice to help replant trees there......??? I know you Marcia have a link for an org that does this....do they do it over there??? gifts have been pouring in, you guys are the best, the troops are loving it, and I will be posting feedback shortly!! bring on the ideas, think about your special talent/skill and how you can help be a part of something really big. I am so grateful this year, you can only imagine how happy I am and that getting the IRS approval is just the beginning for us (as a grown up) though we have persisted since 2001!! This organization belongs to you, our aromatherapy community, without your help and support would not be here. Please spread the word to other lists and groups, somewhere out there is all the help we need. Bless you all my BELOVEDS! Sylla

Guest guest
Syl, I think I have a couple of folks who will redo the website . . . send me the current procedure info from the IRS and I can help with organizing submission to states. And, let's talk to someone like Keith Shawe who has done extensive botany research in the area to brainstorm the trees. We really want to work with indigenous plants and not introduce something that will destroy their ecosystem. I think he's home for the holidays, so I'll give them a call. He has been working on a plant identification project in Afghanistan, actually got very close to danger a few weeks back. Yikes. He'd be the perfect advisor for this.
