Guest guest
Hello, This may not be what your teenage son wants to hear, but eating a diet of fresh fruits and veggies and avoiding sugary foods and wheat can be VERY helpful in avoiding acne. I looked in my Aromatherapy book by Julia Lawless, and it recommends drinking plenty of water and herb teas such as chamomile, peppermint, echinacea, and lemon balm. It recommends nutritional supplements: evening primrose oil, garlic capsules, zinc, and vitamins A & B. Other measures include regular exercise and moderate exposure to sunlight as well as limiting intake of fatty and oily foods. Finally, tea tree oil has been compared favorably with benzol peroxide and had fewer side effects. Tea tree can be applied *neat* with a cotton bud night and morning. Tell your son that his acne may well be gone after puberty!! Best to you both! ~Connie in S.C. Guest guest
Ah, I sympathize. One of my best friends and I suffered through the acne of our youth and even into our 30's. He did get a good job with good insurance and went with the pricey dermatologist for results. I got the same results with colon cleansing! yes, started using colon cleansing products and drinking LOTS of water to flush out the toxins. As you know, if your body is overloaded with toxins then they start coming out through your skin. I don't know if this is your son's case but, just in case, thought I'd share my experience. I wish I'd known about detoxing when I was 16! -Anna , " Mystical " <mysticalpanthr wrote: > > > <snip> We really don't have the money to be going to a dermatologist > either due to me not being able to work outside the home. Guest guest
Tell him he has to do the wash as it is the only known treatment. The only other thing is give him 1 tablepoon fish oil and Vit. C. But if it is just a matter of too much trouble for the wash then I cannot help the boy but to say he should use the wash daily. anne.- -- In , " Mystical " <mysticalpanthr wrote: > > > I have a teenage boy that is 15 yr old and has bad acne, we have tried > Proactive that you see on the tv and it got to be quite spendy it worked > to some point and then after awhile he got purple blemishes and they > would go away. Is there any > suggestions to what we might be able to do? > > Mystical Panther Lady > Hi, MPL! I would suggest that first you get him to do a total body cleanse. You can pick one up from your local health food store. The one I use and recommend is made by Renew and costs about $30. It's a two pill cleanse taken twice a day. It's not a harsh one to use. I'm testing that he may need as many as three boxes to complete that cleanse, so he could be on this for 90 days. That should clear up about 40% of the problem. In conjunction with this herbal therapy, I would also suggest you purchase some tea tree essential oil (about $12). Apply three drops of oil on the inside of each elbow twice a day. If he doesn't like the smell of it and wants to wash it off before going to school, ask him to wait 20 minutes after the application before he washes it off. Those two therapies will take care of about 80% of the problem. To put " the icing on the cake " , find a homeopath near you. If you don't know one, you can find one at www.homeopathy.org <http://www.homeopathy.org> .. They list them by state on their web site. They can help balance his hormones. Those three therapies will work well with one another. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. You can also find me at Ohio Healer on 360. Good Luck! Guest guest
This can be due to bacteria build up in the small instestine. Do a good cleanse. Oregon grape and zinc may also be helpful. Guest guest
What else can you do? Washing and not picking are first and foremost!!!! Not using heavy hair conditioner or any, without rinsing extremely well and I emphasize extremely well especially when acne is on your back and shoulders! The main problems I see with teenage boys is exactly what you are saying they dont want to take the time to wash, let alone doing anything extra. Washing every day is of utmost importance!! ANd boys and some girls really dont take that time!! They quick wash the hair, barely. They dont even use soap on their skin, rinse off and they will swear they taken a good shower. The teenagers at this age honestly dont realize the issue of cutting the oil with soap, what worked for them before they were 12 will not work. period. on teenager oily skin conditions, you literally need to step it up a notch. The 2 main problems I see all day long is, acne-d skin is usually also sensitive skin. So the average acne skincare products only serve to give you bumps on top of bumps, it flares it up even worse. You need products for sensitive skin, you want to calm the skin and the acne will leave if....The 2nd one The 2nd thing is, not to pick. When you pick, anything that comes out and gets on the other surrounding skin, will break out there also! Acne is contagious to itself or yourself, no you cant get it from other people, just yourself. So where you only had one, now you have several, within a 72 hour period. ALSO, the average zit lasts 72 hours at the most! ANd without any picking or other irritation, will be gone. You can up this time to 24 hours, by placing tea tree or alcohol or benzoyle peroxide products on your skin, and hold it on there wet, while you are watching tv or whatever. Every half hour for 2-3 hours. Say you got pictures the next day and you gotta get rid of the zit. When you pick, you just invited that zit to be on your face for 3 more weeks. Say a few days later, scabbed over or to a head again, so you pick at it again, you just invited that zit to stay 3-6 more months. Picking invites more bacteria and irritates and pushes the pus and debris back down into the skin even deeper. When you pick you are never getting at the bottom of it. You are squeezing healthy tissue and inviting the pus to spread the infection deeper and to more areas of the skin. No, you dont need fancy creams. THe few I mentioned are plenty plus these: Exfoliate- The problem with acne skin is that it does not shed its layers like normal skin does. So trap some debris under there from itching your face, or resting or leaning on dirty hands, add sports and barely a shower or soap being used, this skin is in trouble. You can use some gentle to medium strength apricot scrub, for sensitive to normal skin, no jojoba beads do not exfoliate if you see this in a product. You need to do this anywhere from 3-6 day a week. You will have to experiment a little to see how much is best for you. IF you have deep red or pink swollen cyst like acne start with 3 days a week for a couple of weeks, if it likes it then move up. IF you have regular acne where it is the size of the number keys on your cell phone or smaller, then start with 6 days and work your way down to find your balance. You need to use the tea tree oil, or some astringent or the benzoil peroxide on your face after washing to help balance and tone and calm the skin. Which to use depends on the severity of the case. Once you get it under control, toner or astringent used after washing should be all that is needed + exfoliating. Just use the benzoil and the teatree on the actual zits. As for food, no dairy products, no pop! Pop will break out most teenagers faces with in 24 hours, especailly if they do not take a vitamin supplement and their acidolphilous or yogurt regular like. Excessive dairy shows up in the face because the protein of milk is so large it looks for the largest pore to get out of the body and nearest, being the face. This happens when you have an actual sensitivty to the milk. You know this by how you go to the bathroom-bowels- more large pores, or how your stomach feels after you drink some milk. ANd this would be an issue from an early age on up. You know if you are sensitive or not. ANd sports. If you are in regular sports or work out, that sweat is like having the pus from a picked at zit, all over your face or back and shoulders or whole body, on you skin! It has to come off as soon as possible. Shower with shampoo and soap, immediately!!! IF you just cannot shower for whatever reason, then you need to get the medicated pads, and use these to wipe off with. I do not reccomend using a cotton ball soaked with whatever, if you are not home and the cotton has not been kept sterile, and your hands are not sure to be clean. Use them on your face back shoulders, where ever your acne is a problem or could be a problem Soap- this one can be difficult. I reccomend using DDF skin foaming cleansers for acne, they calm and heal and soothe. Sold in spa/salons or Sephora stores. $28 I think, but it goes a long way, just use one pump of foam. I reccomend their exfoliant and moisturizer too, if you find you need it for oily skin. If you must use bar soap, use neutrogena, no nice creamy white soaps for your skin, except Ivory. Even baby soaps are nice, only sensitive skin baby soap. No home made soaps, unless pure essential oils are used, only lavender, rosemary, peppermint, teatree, orange, grapefruit, lemongrass. Change clothes everyday, for back and shoulder acne. Dont spread them with what is on your shirt. Steam, hot towels are best for skin that is clogged and coming to a head. Do not pick, go get a hot towel or wash cloth and sit with it on your face for 20-30 minutes-3 xs a week or everytinme you feel like you must pick. Lay down with your favorite music or ... After 10 or so minutes the cloth will cool down, heat it back up again, carefully in the microwave, wave the towel in the air, fanning it back and forth unitl it is a temperature suitable for your skin. And lastly, Burdock root in pill form. Sart out taking it one pill a day for a week, 2nd week take it twice a day, 3rd week 3xs a day. then back down to just 2 xs a day, next one 1 all day. Take a week off and start the cycle again. You will have to do this for as long as you have acne, this will help you to find the doasge that works for you. Once you find your dosage, you will still need to take a break for a week at a time every 3-4 weeks. But after you stop taking it for the week, dont start taking your regular say 2 a day or whatever number works for you. You must start with one pill the first week, and build it up to your number that works. Kelp- helps to cleanse and to restore mineral balance in your body and your skin, which is 85% water. Take as directed. I know it sounds like alot, but it will become common place for you after a few days. If you forget what number or how many with the burdock root pills for a day or 2 thats ok, just get your body used to it slowly always when you start it back up again. It is very cleansing, and will start to clean out alot of gook from you, so slowly in the beginning. Steam and exfoliating are the 2 most important phases after washing and not picking!! I hope this helps! Guest guest
Earlier today I saw something on pimples (face & back). The column mentioned that a low-carb diet is shown to help. Anyway, the writer wrote in to say that she had eliminated one food item each week, wait 2 weeks, eliminate another. And when she eliminated bananas, it all cleared up and stayed clear. She was asking about this and the columnist mentioned the low-carb diet (keeps sugar level from going up suddenly, as with a high-carb food item) and that bananas are around the middle (I guess) on the glycemic index. Just a thought as to trying to eliminate certain foods as she did. Or just look at his overall diet. Also my son (age 17) uses inositol powder (mixed with a liquid) for his OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and inositol is said to help with healthy skin. I do think his skin has improved too. He always some pimples on face and back but has gotten a lot clearer. Let us know if you find something that works! The reason you use a combination of products is to kill the bacteria. A quality Acne Gel and FaceWash has anti-bacterial properties. A quality program will leave an invisible protective healing film to soften and protect the skin. In addition, Acne Gel heals existing pimples, improve skin texture and circulation. Guest guest
Acne especially in teenagers of course has to do with hormones. There is a great product you can take called NightGain. It is developed by a medical herbalist Donny Yance through his company Natura Health Products. It is a blend of herbs and nutrients that helps balance the endocrine and hormonal system. It also protects the liver and promotes detoxification. You can learn more about it on-line at naturahealthproducts.com. If you can't order it from their website I know you can order it at www.thehealinggardens.org We use this product with our patients and I've even used it myself. It really is amazing. We see results within 6-8 weeks. (And its a capsule!) As far as the skin topically, Topical Acne Treatments can be really full of chemicals and harsh ingredients for the skin. There is a product that is all natural, no chemicals or preservatives called Dr. Fields' Sacred Skin. Dr. Fields is a medical doctor that is board certified in holistic medicine. She created an acne line that is really amazing. Along with the NightGain, Dr. Fields' Sacred Skin Acne Protocol will really help. Guest guest
Acne, and any other skin condition, has to be addressed from the inside out as well. I remember reading about once case that got a lot better when the sufferer used huge amounts of pricey probiotics. And I mean a lot, 18 caps a day for a few weeks. Guest guest
Hi Sylla, We have a blend that works fantastic on Acne. We call it " Fresh Face " . The blend used to be called Acne Blend but due to all those regulations making medical claims we had to change the name. Yes Acne is considered a real medical condition. Anyway, the blend is on the following page http://birchhillhappenings.com/aroma3.htm#acne We suggest you put it in a toner or astringent base at a 1% blend. (we have the unscented bases too but you can just blend in distilled water and just remember to shake it often and keep in refrigerator.) Apply to a clean face once or twice a day with a cotton ball. OR make a diluted amount in Jojoba and apply a drop with a cotton swab directly to the erruption/lesion. We have several customers that swear by it. And on the rare occasion I get a breakout. I have applied it (in jojoba) to the zit and it heals within 24-48 hours. Also I have an article that has several recipes on this page http://birchhillhappenings.com/acne.htm Hope this gives you a head start. Penny Your One Stop Aromatherapy Shop! Guest guest
Hi Sylla, I do have to agree. Jojoba is not for everyone. My next choice would be one of the coconut oils OR we have one gal that uses Camellia and another that uses Grapeseed oil. Each person has to find what carrier or fixed oil will work with their specific skin type, area they live etc. For me Sweet Almond is just way to heavy on my face. I only like that if giving a massage, I don't like it on my face or even the rest of my body. I don't mind Sunflower oil either but wouldn't use that on my face. On my face, I rarely ever need to put oil or lotion on, but if and when I do, it is usually a very small amount of jojoba, but then again, I live in Northern Minnesota where the cold weather can be brutal on skin. Want to join us for Christmas anyone? A nasty Blizzard is bearing down on us. Oh yeah! They are saying we might get 14-20 inches of snow, very cold temperatures and winds howling to 40-45 miles an hour! Merry Christmas to everyone and stay safe too!
