Read the following news http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0707/435997.html:

Gandhi wrote the letter, which had been expected to sell for up to $24,000, 19 days before his assassination in New Delhi by a Hindu extremist in January 1948. Addressed to an Indian magazine, it pleaded for tolerance toward India's Muslim population.

I was wondering what could be cost of a letter? $24000? Rs 10 Lakh? Why? It is just a pice of paper with some ink which has dried. The waste paper in my house does not sell to the kabadhi for Rs 4 a KG, then this pice of letter is costing so much? There must be something in it.

These could be possible reasons:

1) Historic - Gandhi ji wrote it - sentimental values ?

2) May be some romantic novel/movie plot is written in the pages?

3) Some one is crazy to sell such letter and some one is crazy to even by it at this price?

4) The thoughts of the great man soo good that there is no price for them.

I think it is point number (4) and I have been reading some more of his letters - each of them is worth Rs 10 Lakh. However, I bought a printed book costing Rs 5/- contianing 20 of his letters. Each of them contian excellent thoughts. Approximate cost of the thoughts 20* 10 lakh = 200 lakh.

I would urge all to get there copy of letters and read them. Some of them are available online as well.

Regards,

Lokesh
