Anyone with an ADHD child has my total sympathy and admiration. It is TOUGH. My ADD son is now 25 and doing very well. Compared to a full-fledged case he was not too bad. He was more dreamy than hyper. But we had our struggles. There are many things I know now that I wished I had known then. What have you been doing so far to help your son? ADHD seems to be a condition of malfunctioning filters. A typical ADHD person has a hard time with boundaries, in every possible way. The ADDer's brain has a hard time filtering out background noise from what it is supposed to pay attention to, and the body needs extra help in filtering out harmful substances. Most ADHD people have allergies/sensitivities to a lot of substances. Wheat and milk are frequent culprits, but it can also be outgassing new furniture, or dustmites, or the fumes from the chemicals one is using to battle the dustmites. We are living in a large unintended experiment. Never before has humanity lived in such a soup of man-made compounds. Even if individual chemicals are tested, that has not been the case with the whole cocktail. Many ADHD kids are like the canary in the coalmine. And there is no "OUT" there. Have you heard of Dr Doris Rapp? She was brilliant at making the connection between allergies and ADHD. I highly recommend her books: "Is this your child?" and "Is this your child's world?" Ask me for Alex's story off list.
