Guest guest
Catnip, like chamomile, is a tummy herb, thus it helps digestion, which in turn relaxes you. Considered an analgesic in some literature. Many sleep problems are related to digestive ailments. Catnip tea is drank by nursing mothers to ease baby's colic. For me, its bitter to taste as I don't care for sweeteners, but honey does help, in a small amount. I cannot tell you of any adverse effects, but can caution that if you have any tightening of your throat or difficulty in breathing, then by all means discontinue. People are different one from another in their tolerance of plant medicines. All I can say, is catnip tea, if it works to relax and settle you, then there is no harm in it. Its been used for ages. Try blending it with the chamomile, and perhaps some lavender flower for sweetness, all these three combined should be a nice tisane before bed. ---- 05/07/05 07:06:32 CATNIP TEA QUESTION. Guest guest
Hi Heather, I can't speak from personal experience about catnip, but I take one melatonin tablet a half hour before bed, and it really knocks me out, and I sleep much better the whole night. I suspect that if the allopathic doctor had prescribed a poisonous and addictive drug, your grandmother would not be as concerned. If catnip helps you, go for it! As you said, it has been used for a very long time. Maria HI, HEATHER HERE. I JUST STARTED USING >CATNIP TEA AS A SEDATIVE FOR SLEEP. >DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ADVERSE AFFECTS >OF CATNIP LEAVES?
