Guest guest
Hello everyone, hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. I have been reading alot lately about how increasing your dairy intake can help you loose weight, my problem is that i am lactose intolerant so i have to drink the Lactaid type milk. Also i only drink things that are decaffinated, I drink about 4 cups of green tea everyday. So my question is am I getting as good of benefits that others may get when they drink the green tea or does the process of decaffinating the tea also take the good nutrients and such with it. The same with the Lactaid type milks, would i get the same health benefits from it as oppose to regular milk. Thanks in advance, this has always been such a helpful and wonderful group. I have learned so much from you all. Katt
Guest guest
lactose is a very complex & complete product, and as such very difficult to digest, asian who don't take alot of dairy product stay slim without much effort. now the 2nd generation who grow up in the US ,who have been drilled into drinking milk because it is good for the body has become big & fat. this is only my own personal observation. At least use milk products that are predigested like yogurt and kefir. Goat's milk is even better. Do you mind sharing where you read that? I find myself losing weight whenever I take some time off cheese. Alas, getting a Dutch girl to let go of the cheese is pretty hard. Ien in the Kootenays*******************************Stop. Breathe. Hi Mary and all, Actually, it's true, but it's the calcium not dairy products that promotes weight loss. Here's some good info on this for you... Michelle Calcium Leads to Weight Loss It might seem unlikely that something that makes your bones stronger and less porous can help you lose weight. Yet, it appears that this is true. Are Calcium and Weight Loss Linked? In the late 1980s, scientists were studying the effects of calcium on high blood pressure. They were hoping to demonstrate that increasing calcium intake would reduce people's blood pressure. In the preliminary tests, it did reduce blood pressure, and the scientists were also surprised to find that the average participant in the study lost 11 pounds of weight, suggesting that calcium and weight loss may be related. The calcium in this experiment was given by feeding the participants 2 pounds of full fat yogurt a day, so it was even more remarkable that the subjects lost weight. Encouraged by these results, researchers started conducting other studies to see if calcium and weight loss were linked. A recent review of studies by the United States National Institutes of Health showed some very interesting results in terms of calcium and weight loss. The overall findings showed that people who were overweight ate only small quantities of calcium, and people who lost a lot of weight ate the most calcium. The Mechanism Behind Calcium and Weight Loss Much more research on calcium and weight loss is needed; yet the research so far is promising. However, exactly how calcium affects body weight and fat is not clear. The reports indicate that a component of dairy products not analyzed in the studies, such as conjugated linoleic acid, may be responsible. Calcium from dairy and non-dairy sources may also replace another nutrient. Another theory is that not getting enough calcium in your diet puts the body into something like the starvation mode that occurs when insufficient food is eaten. Lack of calcium may produce changes in hormones and the mechanism that stores fat, and thereby causing weight gain. Getting enough calcium may reverse this process and enable weight to be lost or healthy weigh maintained. If you are trying to lose weight, it is advisable to talk to your doctor first. Consuming dietary calcium in order to help weight loss is probably not the best method as dairy products are generally high in saturated fat. It may be better to use a calcium supplement that has next-to-no calories or fat.

I am a research technician with the University of Arizona. There tend to be groups of people tested (if they test on humans, NOT ANIMALS, which primary studies are ALWAY performed on animals BEFORE they are allowed to be performed on human) who will not respond. If you have an n= (number of persons tested) that is 100 or more, this is only a SLIGHT percentage of a population. Within that testing criteria, it will show that the persons who lost weight by adding calcium (did they also exercise?, eat less red meats, ate more veggies, etc, there are a lot of criteria that has to be met to get an accurate result) was only a percentage. Thus, this means that it didn't work for everyone. We are all individuals. If you are lactose intolerant, or like me, suseptible to kidney stones, then calcium supplements won't help, either. To lose weight.... eat more veggies (summer type, squash, beans, brascillicas, etc) cut out red meat eat more fish (sardines, herring, and salmon with the bones... canned, another source of calcium) exercise. For me, its elliminating anything and everything with wheat, corn, or dairy. Makes it simple, but really hard.
