Guest guest
Dear Michael, My favorite quote on ADHD comes from Joe Bob Briggs: " These days they're drugging boys just for being normal boys. " ....I second that - neither myself or my husband (who are in the upper 140's in the IQ charts ) were normal kids. In today's schools - I am sure they would have tried to put us on drugs. We were both out of step with our educators and with some of our peers. Quite frankly - I am Horrified and appalled at the covert attack on children who are a little different. It is the geniuses and the " oddballs " who are being drugged. Those are the ones who have guided our civilization in the past..............Love Penny
Guest guest
Have you ever read the book " Is this your Child? " by a pediatrician that connects " behavior disorders " with specific food allergies. My son Jeremy was so allergic to Wheat, MSG, Diary and a few other foods that when he had these foods in his diet his ears would turn red, dark shadows appeared under his eyes and he became very aggressive in his behavior. It was like you could set your clock, within 20 minutes of MSG (it was in the Campbells Soup they served him in nursery school, he would turn into this wild aggressive little monster. This book is really interesting, pick it up if you can. I loaned it out to someone, and I don't remember the name of the author. Guest guest
There is good news out there. Connecticut just passed a law, effective next month, saying that teachers and other school officials cannot recommend drugs for children. Minnesota has just done the same thing by regulation. Similar laws are now being proposed in several other states. And this morning i just got word that the head legal honcho of the Texas Dept. of Education has said that requiring kids to be on drugs as a condition of school attendance is totally illegal in the first place. So there is hope. I believe a practice such as yours will soon be viable in several states, and i want to encourage you in it. If you need some more information on educational techniques feel free to ask us anything off-list. I have managed to interview a few young people who have graduated from school and were on educational drugs while in elementary and junior high. They have told me that the time spent on drugs is " a blur " , and they cannot recall many specific things from those periods. Any kid currently on a stimulant drug for educational purposes can best be regarded as not all there. So paying special attention to environmental awareness when kids are coming off these drugs is very important. And of course you know what's needed in terms of nutrition, which i think would be an incredibly helpful part of your practice. After all, these days parents need education too. Guest guest
A little note that I'd like to research more: I was speaking to one of our customers who had her two daughters with her, and she was looking for these little carrot-with-dip 3-packs that we were out of " for lunch'! (I can't remember ever eating that little for lunch, even all 3 packs!!) It came up about her letting them eat healthy like that though she buys cookies for them to have an occasional treat (ummmhummm!), because her school didn't let them have sweets! What a revelation (considering that progressively regressive Virginia has no law to that effect - that I'm aware of)!! I wonder if they swear away from the processed corn dogs, and chicken patties and biscuits that I've seen under the lunch/breakfast menu's on the school channel on cable; or the punch and Kool-aid, do they count as sweets? Worht looking into!?! Steve -----------------------------
