Guest guest
I have ask this before and I do thank all you wonderful people for listening to me and I much appreciate all the responses you have given me. Things are getting quite serious in our family as we are very concerned for my mothers health. I couldn't agree with Doc more for his feelings of the public mental health service ,and I expect its the same world over, even here in Australia.I have always believed they are desperate to justify their own existence and will take patients into their care no matter what, especially the elderly. and who's going to believe a drug out senior citizen. Even the family can conned to believe that this is the only solution. I deal with car salesmen every day,I know about manipulating customers, and the medical profession is bigger than the car industry. The problem my mother has is severe dementure, or possibly a form of Psychofenia (spelling wrong) It has caused the sale of her last 2 houses and she is still sure that she is being stalked by her ex neighbour. she has just left her house to live with my brother and bought a van to travel the country to get away from her imaginary assailant. Without taking up too much space of this great group have any of you got any ideas for me, or can I email any of you privately for further discussion. I'm asking a lot but having been a group member for a while now I have realized that people here like the Doc and Michael Rivers and so many more that have come and gone are such wonderful people that I don't have any other friends to turn to. I'm sure this is a problem that has happened to others. Thanks for listening Your Friend in Australia Tom Murray Newcastle.
Guest guest
Yes, the mental health industry is big in Australia. Some of the worst cases of corruption and abuse have come from there -- but the good news is that in Australia there is a court system that gets results in prosecuting these unprintable scalawags at times. What we find when we stand away from the system, is that generally the mental health treatments cause more harm than good in almost every case. This is especially true of drug treatments, which are the favorite currently. After a while, it becomes difficult to determine what parts of a mental condition are pre-existing with the patient, and what parts have been created by previous treatments. In various emergency situations, i have always seen good results with the B vitamins. In cases of acute psychosis, Niacin is particularly effective at a 500 mg dose. I have personally witnessed a fellow rambling on about being a " space lesbian " for some time, and then turning around and cheerfully discussing baseball with me after just one dose of Niacin. I always have some in my medicine bag for that reason. Really what every mentally disturbed person needs is a safe environment and good nutrition. I dream of a day when there can be humane mental institutions that are placed among wide open spaces where guards exist only to keep people from hurting themselves, and hearty meals are served every day. Friends are allowed to visit and talk indefinitely. We will probably never find a cure for every mental illness. But a very large percentage of these folks can be brought back to civilization through just the things mentioned here. Mental illness is always difficult to confront, so i must also praise you for being willing to deal with this problem. That's the most important thing of all -- that someone simply be willing to be with the patient in their distress. Sometimes i have also seen great success happen by a person just listening to a mental patient rave on for a little while, and not doing any evaluation whatsoever of the person's stories. Instead, just calmly point out whatever joyful, beautiful things can be found in the immediate environment and situation. That, along with good nutrition, has done wonders. Many patients, after listening to themselves for a while, suddenly realize the truth about their condition, and break through. It's certainly worth whatever time you can spend. BTW i have a friend in Newcastle who is well versed on nutrition and many other interesting things. I can give you his email address privately if you write privately.
