Guest guest
Dear Doc, or whoever knows.... Today I started taking a suppliment to pep up my Adrenal gland. It contains a couple of diffrent kinds of Ginsang,Licorice,Wild Yam, and a few more herbs. My question is about Ginsang. Does it work in a cumulative manner? That is, If I keep taking it everyday, will it build up my energy more and more as time goes by, or are you supposed to feel the full force of it from the first day? Thanks! -Skip Goforth
Guest guest
Dear Skip, It can have a cumulative effect if you stop doing those things which "Caused" your low energy in the first place. A good example would be coffee not that I'm saying this is the case with you. Only an example ;o) Coffee anhilates the adrenals if taken in sufficient quantity. If one were to stop the coffee and start the Ginseng at the same time, the effect should be almost instantaneous and cumulative. If you don't stop the coffee, why then the effect would be "Band-Aid" only, and would eventually have less and less positive effect over a period of time. And just like the pharmaceuticals, you'd have to increase your dosage of ginseng as time went by. Many people think they are being healthy by just adopting the herbal approach or by taking herbal medicine. This is not the case, and is only substituting herbals for pharmaceuticals which will not work in the long run. One must be on an all natural health building program including but not limited to EXERCISE, ORGANIC DIET, BIO-CHEMICAL ENHANCEMENTS (HERBS, VITAMINS, SUPPLEMENTS, ETC.). Hope this helps. Guest guest
The effects of Ginseng are usually subtle. Few people feel a boost of energy from Ginseng alone, certainly not in the same way as caffeine. You will often know that Ginseng is working more by the absence of problems than by the presence of any sensations. Some herbalists feel that Ginseng should never be used by women. Others have put out elaborate rules for its use by women. The reverse is that men should never take Wild Yam or Dong Quai. This is all an area of great controversy, and it is not going to be easy to resolve that. Guest guest
Dear Doc and Michael, Thanks for the advice about Ginsang. I'll try green and black and herb teas instead of coffee. As a night-time radio DJ, coffee is what keeps us 'perky', but I'm willing to quit to get my energy back. Warmest regards, Skip Goforth herbal remedies, " Ian Shillington N.D. Guest guest
Yipes -- you might be going from the frying pan into the fire. Green & black teas have caffiene too. They also have tannic and oxalic acid, which can be helpful to digestion, and can be harmful if you don't need them. Many herb teas are better. I tend to trust the Celestial Seasonings brand over anything else out there. Have run into the founders of the company on many occasions, and they have impressed me as men of high integrity. Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth i did DJ work, sometimes on the late nite shift. Drinking coffee was a requirement at most stations at that time. Since i had developed an allergy to caffeine, i was impossible to live with. Doing that kind of work requires that you make sure to eat when hungry, and take lots of high-quality vitamins. You are around a lot of serious electromagnetic fields, and need to compensate for that. There are many methods (and hardware) involved in that, too much for a short post when i have to run off & give a harp lesson to a kid right now. Guest guest
Dear Skip, Don't know if Michael answered this or not, but the green and black tea have just as much caffeine in them, so you're just substituting one crutch for another. The way to go is with ginseng tea and a good ginseng formula. My favorite is my Male Energy Formula which is as follows: Wild American Ginseng Chinese Ginseng Korean Ginseng Siberian Ginseng Saw Palmetto Berry Yohimbe Bark Sarsaparilla Root Oat Seed Ginger rhizome & Kola Nut When I take this formula, I'm "perky" for hours and hours. Of course when I do take it, my wife Valorie runs for the hills ;o) LOL Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - skipgoforth herbal remedies Wednesday, March 06, 2002 2:05 PM [herbal remedies] Re: Ginsang Dear Doc and Michael,Thanks for the advice about Ginsang.I'll try green and black and herb teas instead of coffee. As a night-time radio DJ, coffee is what keeps us 'perky', but I'm willing to quit to get my energy back.Warmest regards,Skip Goforth
