Just a note to let everyone know that when you buy fresh milk please

be careful of what you drinking.

A guy at work had some fresh milk recently, straight off the farm.

What he didn't know was that the cow had recently had a penicillin

shot. Well guess who was allergic to penicillin, good ol' Tom.

He went to the hospital 2 times and to the doctor once. Missed work

for 3 days and was very swelled up, very uncomfortable.

Please be very careful with any milk or meat that you ingest.

Thanks for listening.

Dear Helen,

You are spot on here. The nail has been hit on the head.

What "They" have done to our meat products here in the US is nothing short of criminal.

This is the reason "WHY" our children are now going through puberty at ages 8, 9, & 10 instead of the usual 12 through 14.

Love,

Doc

"What "They" have done to our meat products here in the US is nothing short of criminal"

This is the reason we live the way we do. With a bit of luck over the course of the next 24 months we will be removed from the "mainstream" food supply. We raise our own chickens for eggs and meat. We have just begun milking our own goats. We have been raising goats for meat for a couple years already. Our garden gets bigger and bigger every year. It is taking some time to figure out how much garden you need for a family of six. And just today we started some of the potted herbs in the kitchen.

My biggest problem with the meat supply in the US is all the antibiotics that those animals are fed on a regular basis. However, blaming "They" is not exactly correct. Really, we need to blame "We", as in, the consumer. The farmers in this country have been pushed to produce in this fashion by the American consumer. Americans think they have a right to cheap food. And safe food. And high quality food. Of all of these the only one that is wrong is the cheap. Farmers are expected to pay the highest price for their grains (to feed to animals) and hays, but then are expected to accept the lowest possible price when selling the "finished product". As consumers we have made it impossible for small producers to survive and the big guys don't really care how they get their money. So, if you really want to make a difference in this system all you need to do is find a local producer and buy your stuff from him, even if it costs more than the "store" stuff. We can force the ag industry to use better judgement if we just do this. I have had customers (for fryer chickens) refuse to buy what they had ordered because the big chain grocery store was having a 50 cent sale the same week as he was supposed to pick up his already dressed out birds. As small producers we can't raise them as cheaply because we're not buying tons (literally) of feed at a time. As a small producer I can raise them better, without alot of the "additives" the commercial guys use. Anyway, if you all want to make a difference locally, find someone that produces what you need in a way you do approve of. At the very least it may help that family keep on going for one more year.

Lynnette I totally agree with you. I have done my best to remove myself form the "Mainstream food chain" I am fortunate in the fact that I have 10 acres which was originally part of a 2,000 acre dry farm that was originally farmed by an old Indian family for several generations - mostly corn wheat and hay was grown here then the land was left un-farmed for over 30 years. My point is that no chemicals have ever been used on this land . My chickens are all free range with grains or scratch only supplied in the winter. goats, beef or anything I choose to raise is raised almost totally chemical free. I am also fortunate to have a very small local feed store in town that mixes his own feeds and will mix or buy any grains you choose either those supplied by me or from farms that I know who don't spray chemicals - feeds are mixed for me with only sea salts, and minerals of my choosing with no additives. The only chemicals I may get in my feeds are I don't know how well he cleans the bins between mixing my feeds and the feeds for the big commercial people who have the antibiotics and steroids and vitamins and garbage added to their feeds. We are also lucky enough to live close enough to the Indian Reservations and be allowed to fish in the lakes and streams where there are no chemicals used in or around them. Unfortunately my husband does not share my quest for a better life - he eats what I cook but is so convinced that the "Medicos" have all the answers that he will not listen to reason and now that his cancer is in the last stages and his Drs. have pretty much given up on him he still believes that drugs are the only answer. There are only 2 things that I cannot or will not do and "Doc" can vouch for this is that I will not eat raw eggs (I won't even eat cooked eggs) and I currently cannot give up my coffee - I don't think it is the caffeine as I don't drink or eat anything else with it in it I just am addicted to the taste of coffee. I am currently running this farm by myself during the day and am up most of the night with my husband and drink coffee constantly. I know there are better things to keep me awake and give me energy but mentally I am addicted to the coffee. Everything else I do I try and do naturally, organically, and healthy. Maybe when and if the stresses in my life ease up I can work on the coffee but the raw eggs are just out of my reach. Sorry Doc there are just some things that a girl cannot do. ;o)

Dear Lynette,

Actually hon, there is no contention between you and I on this subject. This is why the "They" was in quotations. I fully agree that it is up to you and me to change these conditions and that we should "vote" with our check books. I am not really the type to "blame" anyone for anything, though I am usually the first to either take, or point out where the "responsibility" lies. Of course I say this being fully aware that there ARE vested interest groups who definitely do NOT have our best interests at heart.

Love,

Doc

PS. If I understand exactly what you're saying, none of us in this day and age can afford to just be spectators and sit back and let others do our fighting for us. ;o)

Now isn't THAT a novel idea??? :) I didn't mean to make you feel like we were on opposite sides, I was pretty sure we'd be all on the same side (on this list anyway). I sometimes think that people, particularly urban folks, don't always know how to fight the "system" on this one. I wish I could find a way to educate them. They should all be taking drives in the country on their days off.....

Anyway, to change the subject back to an herb question.. My husband is on medication to lower his blood pressure (I forget the name of it) and would like to start taking grape seed extract (which also lowers blood pressure, right??). We are wondering if he should do both at the same time or stop the meds and then start the grape seed extract or what??

Thanks for the help.

Dear Lynette,

Grape Seed extract does help, but not as much a pure organic garlic and Cayenne. The Total Tonic Formula (in the files) taken in larger doses will bring a high blood pressure screaming down.

This is one of those formulae that everyone can and should make on their own. The ingredients are easy to get, and the formula is easy to make. You can actually make the formula in about a half an hour and it's usable immediately. Of course it mellows out over a couple of week and is easier to take after having done so. I've never heard of anyone overdosing on it, and I personally have taken a 4 oz glassful at one time with no ill effects. You can also use the mash (just made) on roast beef instead of just plain horseradish, and I swear it even tastes better. But then, you know me, I'll enjoy and try just about anything ;o)
