Guest guest
For a couple of days I've been thinking about how I could help an 87 yr old gentleman who lost almost all his eyesight due to diabetes. I don't know much about his health history, or possible medication he is using, just that his eyesight has deteriorated as to be called blind , this sad situation compounded now by depression. What can I suggest nutrition wise, or with supplements which are not too complicated for him to follow. He lives 400 km away, in a residential for elderly citizens with next to no say about the meals. I would be very indebted for any useful suggestions. Guest guest
---Hanneke, According to James A. Duke Ph.D. Bitter Melon is the cure, followed by Fenugreek seeds and Gymnemre Sylvestre. Auryvedic preparations are the best. Here is a site that explains bitter melon also known as Karela or balsam pear. http://home.istar.ca/~hlth2000/bittermelon.html All of the above mentioned herbs will aid the pancreas in making insulin, and in this way will help to alleviate many of the problems he is now experiencing. It is better to get a supplement containing both the extracts and fruit combined (Auryvedic if at all possible) as I've found that they have by far the most benefit. I have some friends who have used all three of these herbs with very good results. Elderberry is excellent for restoring vision and has been used frequently for cataracts.
