Guest guest
" mrsjoguest " <jguest Subject:[DietaryTipsForHBP] Nutritional Therapy for High Blood PressureDate:Sun, 02 Mar 2003 21:44:24 +0000 Nutritional Therapy for High Blood Pressure David Edelberg, M.D. an internist and medical director of the American Holistic Center of Chicago, has suggested the following as a nutritional therapy for lowering high blood pressure: 1) Cut back on sugar, salt, caffeine and alcohol 2) Reduce or eliminate red meats in the diet, (substitute Organic brands such as Laura's Lean Beef) 3) 500 mgs of calcium, twice a day 4) 400 mgs of magnesium, twice a day 5) one tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day 6) 75 mgs of coenzyme Q10, three times a day 7) two hawthorn berry capsules, twice a day My personal modifications to this list would be as follows. First, I do not believe that we need to completely eliminate lean meats, if used in moderation. You need more than just calcium and magnesium. You should include a complete mineral formula which provides: selenium, zinc, copper, chromium, iodine, boron, manganese, and potassium. It would be important to include a complete " stress " vitamin B-complex, vitamins A and D, and at least a gram (1,000 mgs) of vitamin C, two or three times a day. The additional suggestion of fish several times a week, or fish oil capsules, with high potassium fruits, vegetables and garlice would also be beneficial.
