Stop the presses! Hold the phone! Sound the bugles - and forward this to your friends. There's breaking news about Alzheimer's disease. Well, it's " news " in the sense that the mainstream is reporting it. I've only been talking about it for 30 years... According to a Reuters online article from April 14, University of California researchers recently found a positive (meaning non-inverse, not beneficial) correlation between the incidence of Alzheimer's disease and levels of aluminum in drinking water. The study focused on a region of northwestern Italy that's noted for its higher-than-average rate of Alzheimer's deaths. As it turns out, that region's water supply is abnormally high in its concentration of aluminum - by as much as six times the maximum amount recommended by most environmental agencies! The study also probed aluminum's effects on human cells, revealing that even minute amounts of the metal hastened cellular death - especially when combined with beta-amyloid, a protein prevalent in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. If this sounds like " deja-vu all over again, " it's because you may already know about this disturbing aluminum/Alzheimer's connection - probably from reading about it here in the Daily Dose or in my Real Health newsletter. I've been reporting for years the fact that abnormal concentrations of aluminum are found in the cerebrums of almost all Alzheimer's patients... Now, you know how much I hate to say: " I told you so. " Really, I do. Actually, what I hate is the fact that I so often HAVE to say it - because that just means nobody listened to me the first time (or the second, or the 20th, in this case)... But hey, at least they finally came around, right? And if you think your H2O is aluminum-free, think again. Almost all municipal water sources in this country contain various amounts of the metal - odds are that you're drinking it every day. But what's even more frightening is this: The fluoride that our government poisons our water supply with in the name of brighter smiles has actually been shown in animal studies to ENHANCE ABSORPTION of aluminum... Actions to take: Use bottled water (of a spring-fed variety) for drinking and cooking purposes - and don't forget to use bottled water for the ice cubes. I'm not saying the bottled kinds are pure and completely free of aluminum, but they're likely better than what comes out of the tap. Also, buy yourself a quality water filter that removes fluoride. These are not too common, but they're out there if you look. ************************************************************** Unless they're expecting a U-boat, moms should leave " sonar " out of the picture... It's amazing to me how much of today's medicine is actually rooted in techniques developed for warfare - things like radiation treatment and " nuclear " medicine, energy-enhancing drugs (originally for fighter pilots), and last but not least... Prenatal ultrasound imaging. Yep, you read that right. The same technology expectant parents have been using for the last 40 years to watch their little polliwogs as they kick and squirm in the warm, dark safety of the womb was originally developed and used by both sides to detect enemy submarines during World War II. Perhaps you've heard of a little thing called SONAR? It's when high-intensity sound waves are projected in such force and in such concentration that when they make contact with a submerged object, they slam into the surface of the object with sufficient force to bounce back to and be detected by the original source. Probably the U-boat doesn't mind... But imagine how potent those sound waves have to be to " echo " off a baby after penetrating the mother's body (both ways, mind you)! We're not talking about the hard, steel hull of a submarine that crisply reflects those waves - it's the soft, tender flesh of a fetus. This can't be good for the unborn child... In fact, it's not. European studies have shown a correlation between ultrasound and an increased risk of epilepsy, brain damage, depression, and left-handedness (itself a sign of arrested pre-natal brain development). But are today's obstetricians and radiologists telling expectant mothers about these risks? Are they even aware themselves? For over 20 years, I've been sounding off about this - to be ignored like Cassandra at the oracle of Delphi. But now, finally, I'm beginning to hear my cries of alarm echoed (no double entendre intended) in some mainstream sources. I guess I should be happy... Normally it takes 30 years for anything I say to gain mainstream acceptance.
