If you have an advanced case of herpes you may need more than the maintenance dosages. I believe that I would take two caps every six hours if I were afflicted with this, this is at least until its under control. Olive leaf extract is quite safe. It is just the leaves of the olive leaf tree which have been found to have great medicinal effects. I take it at first sign of colds or infection of any kind. JoAnn Here are the recommended amounts from the article as well.... • Take the superherb Olive Leaf extract in a maintenance dose of one capsule twice daily, everyday to protect against a wide range of infections. I recommend brands of olive leaf extract that contain at least 10% of the active ingredient called oleuropein, as weaker concentrations may not be strong enough. Indeed olive leaf extract has been found to kill all viruses it was tested against in laboratory tests and so is worthwhile in those with any chronic viral infection that is not responding to conventional therapies. 2. Those wanting to improve endurance, stamina and perform in peak condition during times of stress, travel and increased physical exertion. 3. Those with candida, tinea, and other yeast and fungal infections of the intestines, vagina, skin, nails and respiratory tract. 4. Those with cystitis and urinary tract infections. 5. Those with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), caused by recurrent or chronic bacterial, fungal and viral infections. 6. Those with skin problems such as rashes, impetigo, warts and blemishes. These problems are often caused by fungi such as pityriasis versicolor and candida, or bacteria and viruses. 7. Those with unhealthy micro-organisms ( flora ) such as parasites growing in the intestines. Human parasites include helminth worms, protozoa, bacteria, fungi and viruses. Symptoms of parasitic infections are, gas, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, joint pains, allergies, anaemia, chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction. How do you take olive leaf extract ? Maintenance dose: take one 500 mg capsule, twice daily just before eating. This will increase your resistance against infections of all kinds and support the immune system. If you are travelling you can increase the dose to 4 capsules daily to protect against increased exposure to pollutants and germs present in large city areas. If you are suffering with a bad cold, influenza, respiratory infection, sinus infection or excessive mucus take two capsules every six hours. For more acute infections such as sore throats, swollen glands, cystitis or feverish conditions it may be necessary to take 3 capsules every six hours. Side effects: If olive leaf extract causes micro-organisms ( such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites ) to die off rapidly the body may release toxins causing a " die-off " effect which may cause some symptoms such as headaches and fatigue. If this happens reduce dose by half or discontinue the capsules for 3 days. Olive leaf extract is not just a tool of disease prevention, it also offers a new safe and effective therapeutic substance in the ongoing battle against dangerous micro-organisms and chronic infections. • Drink herbal teas such as dandelion, golden seal and green tea, echinacea, which can be sweetened with honey if desired.
