Guest guest
Something which occurred to me in reading your thoughtful reply JoAnn is a memory from way back when I was in High School. My chemistry teacher was talking about the physicists who did all the theoretical work on quantum physics back before there was any way to test the theories in the laboratory before atom bombs & atom smashers. These people engaged in what they called Gedanken Experiments (Thought Experiments) in which they ran thru various theoretical ideas in their heads then argued back & forth as to which idea was probably the correct one. In the field of human health, we (meaning both those of us on this list as well as the researchers with fancy job titles & big salaries) bounce ideas around. Sometimes the ideas become accepted with very little (if anything) to back them up. Sure, sometimes the info is skewed by people who can make a fortune, but I suspect a lot of mis-information & semi-valid information gets propagated thru good intentions. I remember reading many years ago that the original research linking dietary cholesterol to cholesterol build-up in the body was done using guinea pigs. The original researchers did not take into account that guinea pigs are vegetarians, so they just cannot handle animal fats. By the time the researchers realized their error, the concept that eating butter & lard was harmful was firmly engrained in the minds of the scientific community. So we have lots of ideas floating around which are taken as fact, when they are really just opinion, or based in questionable research. As I have time I am going to take time to question various facts presented on this list. Hopefully I won't hurt anyone's feelings. But it seems to me that by questioning what seems incomplete or off-track, maybe we can get to important considerations which might otherwise be overlooked. I would start by saying that in my opinion, not any of us really know what causes cancer. Everyone I talk to offers varying opinions.
