Most of us who have made the required changes readily admit it is not that easy to make the changes, but after years of undernourishment on the typical American diet we really have no other choice for healing in my opinion. I can assure you that by eliminating both refined food and oils from your diet, you will be doing your cells a great favor both for the short and long term as well. As the previous article stated, the cells primarily are fed from more natural foods although it seems that the term `natural' is used quite loosely these days. I see it on a host of different foods. In my opinion, the only foods which are entirely natural are those which you find in " WholeFoods " Market, your health foods store, or your Organic foods aisle in your locality. Farmer's markets at times carry items which are pesticide, antibiotic and hormone-free as well. Usually I tend to check and recheck every label to ensure it doesn't include harmful additives, even those that bear the organic label, especially the boxed or canned organic foods. Many times they may still contain items which are not organically derived as well. Some examples of this would be soyoil, lecithin, corn syrups(corn is genetically modified), soy protein isolate and other gmo-laden substances. This is the only way to really ensure we won't be taking in genetically modified ingredients (which btw are very plentiful in any refined processed foods)! As I recall, my most important initial changes were in my `oil' intake. Without any hesitation I switched to extra virgin olive oil on the recommendation of Dr. Lorraine Day and other nutritionist whom I had the privilege of viewing on cable. This was the turning point for me for as I discovered later I couldn't have made a more healthy choice. EVOO is by far the best oil for triglyceride and LDL cholesterol management. It does this by elevating good (HDL) cholesterol stores according to Jean Carper, Ph.D. world-renowned author and nutritionist. I had formerly ingested many refined unnatural oils in the form of margarine, canola oil, snack foods/baked goods and even certain brands of butter(Land o Lakes lower-fat butter has hydrogenated oils in the form of mono-dglycerides…which is just another name they are using to disguise these unhealthy oils) This was all quite new to me as I previously had taken in all the `hype' regarding the value of these low-fat products. Promise margarine, Benecol and Take Control, Mayo (even low fat varieties are also problematic and have a host of unhealthy oils contained therein! Very few people are aware that all brand name mayo also contains hydrogenated oils ( " brushed " transfatty oils) which they so conveniently `neglect' to stamp with any label. Spectrum makes a healthier transfat free organic brand which you can order from your favorite health food stores. http://www.spectrumnaturals.com I discovered that our bodies cannot function effectively let alone even exist without sufficient fatty acids and I found that the balance of these essential fatty acids (omegas, sometimes called n- 3s) in our system is every bit as important as the amounts we ingest on a daily basis. Some people, even though they take in the right amounts are unaware that if they also continue to eat refined processed foods with an abundance of refined sugar, salt and other additives, they tend to deplete the omegas faster than they can take them in which is quite often the case. For this reason when cancer patients take in an abundance of omega 3s in flax oil (for instance) unless they are also following an organic diet at the same time, the healing will not take place. Johanna Budwig's flax oil combination is not near as effective when taken out of the original diet plan she put forth for healing. So you can see, much has to be taken into consideration if one really wants to follow a more healthy diet. A good diet is one that takes the health of our cells into consideration, and as you saw in the article when the cells are healthy, the whole body functions well. The irradiation of our fruits/veggies (generating free radicals), the refining of oils (depleting EFAs), the pasteurization of juices (destroying enzyme content) are all problematic in destroying the health of an otherwise healthy cell. When we change the type of foods we take in on a daily basis, then the body starts to heal itself, for it has a powerful healing modality built right into it called the `immune system " which enables us to get back to normal. Many things which are attributed to the `aging' process are just the results of improper diet, poor lifestyle and drugs! We find evidence of this in more primitive civilizations throughout the world that tend to enjoy longer life spans. When the immune system has to spend all its time and energy `fighting' foreign substances added to our food supply purely for convenience, it cannot expend enough of its energy on the healing process. This is especially seen in cases of autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself making healing that much more difficult. (there is even hope for this when we give our bodies all the tools to work with, however first we must stop ingesting ALL toxic substances for the healing to begin and many of these are found in our foods supply, not to mention pharmaceutical drugs as well. On another note, I think you will find that eliminating Dairy is helpful for most people regardless of the health issues they are dealing with at the moment. Although formerly a big believer in the value of dairy-based calcium,I initially eliminated ALL Dairy foods, with just the addition of a little organic yogurt as I continued to progress. I also found that replacing much of my red meat intake with certain varieties of cold water fish was quite beneficial as Lorenzo mentioned earlier. Alaskan salmon, sardines in water and low-sodium tuna (or other varieties free of msg) are very good for this! This very long message, as you may guess, just touches on the basics. Frank and I and others send on many informative posts to the group everyday. When given a good read and heeded as well, these articles can be of great benefit in forming an opinion regarding the types of food and supplements which aid in the healing process. I think you will find, as those of who have experienced any measure of healing will testify, in order for true healing to manifest itself, the changes are not temporary but rather once put in place, we have to abide by them religiously in order to experience a permanent state of health and well-being.
