Guest guest
Lisa Haro asked: Hello all!!I am new here! I am speaking for several other mom's right now who are having a terrible time with their children's asthma, including my own (three kids). Does anyone have any advise on natural remedies to help childhood asthma without all of these ridiculous medications the doctors keep pushing? Any and all help would be so appreciated and passed on to others! Dear Lisa, Sorry this reply is late, I wanted to sit down for it at length, and have been busy. My heart goes out to you, having to cope with 3 children with this condition! One of the best natural remedies for opening the bronchial tubes was just taken off the market. In its infinite wisdom the FDA saw fit to remove access to Ephedra, aka Ma Huang, in spite of the fact that this herb has a history of thousands of years of safe use if used properly. Anyway, about asthma. Observation is important here. You, the parent, are the one who is on the scene to observe what triggers your child's attacks. As your children grow they will have to start taking responsibility for managing their condition themselves. An asthmatic who knows what makes him/her tick has a huge advantage over one who is passively waiting for the doctor's magic cure. As you undoubtedly know, many things can trigger an attack. Pollens, outgassing chemicals or molds in the air, food that the child is sensitive to, and emotional upsets. They all play a role. All the following suggestions are in the "If it doesn't help, it won't hurt" category. The more stress factors you can remove, the better. Let's start with air. Do you have an air filter in your home? If not, you might want to consider it. Spider plants act as natural air purifiers. What do you use to clean your home? Many asthmatics are overly sensitive to the chemicals in cleaning products, furniture waxes etc.. If you have a friend who has been trying to turn you on to safe products like Neways, Melaleucca, Shaklee, or others, do your household a favor and support a friend's business at the same time. Or shop for Ecover at the health food store. (there may be other brands, these are the ones I happen to know) Visit this website about breathing techniques: "Free Your Breath, Free Your Life,":http://www.authentic-breathing.com/ If breathing cleaner air doesn't help the asthma, what have you lost? The next basic: water! Does your child drink enough pure, clean water? Visit http://www.watercure.com for more on this topic. If drinking more water, with the addition of some high-quality sea salt, is not helpful, what have you lost? Next: Play with your food! The digestive tract is a great place to start building health. It is utterly amazing how much misery just goes awaywhen one avoids food that one is sensitive to, clearsthe gunk out of the colon, heals the intestinal tract, activates the liver, and makes sure that food that is eaten is indeed digested. You don't need the OK of a doctor to experiment with diet.Stop milk and/or wheat for a week and see whathappens. Here is a good website on allergies and food sensitivities. www.alternate-health.com You don't need the OK of a doctor to use a gentlebut effective fiber product, and to seed the gutwith probiotics. You don't need the OK of a doctor to feed yourchild digestive enzymes so he breaks down his food and has a better chance to absorb it. Taken in between meals enzymes act as scavengers that clean the blood stream. Read about enzymes here: http://enzymestuff.com You don't need the OK of a doctor to feedyour child whole superfoods that make phytonutrients and minerals easily available to his body. By the way, a phyto-nutrient is just a vitamin that hasn't been named yet. It literally means plant food. Anyway, it is past my bedtime. This should give you plenty of food for thought to start with. All the best!
