[herbal remedies] Lungs

I just got off the phone with my dad. He said he's been having trouble breathing, his aren't as strong. The doctor did x-rays and told him his lungs were hardening?? Due to older age?? Does that make sense and is there anything he can take?

Thanks, Riki

My first thoughts are garlic cloves, lobellia and mullein... total tonic

Other herbs to consider for an upset respiratory system include astragalus, echinacea, osha, goldenseal, pleurisy root, usnea and wild cherry.

Riki,

Does he smoke or did he? Does he have any "lung" history such as COPD, emphysema, asthma...anything like that?

Coltsfoot is good for the lungs in general. If he was a smoker, and if it were me I would use coltsfoot, lobelia and mullein along with garlic.

Coltsfoot has been a favorite amoung herbal remedies for centuries. Used for asthma, bronchitis, shortness of breath, and colds, coltsfoot makes a great remedy. It's generic name, Tussilago, comes from the Latin for 'cough,' and coltsfoot does indeed contain compounds proven effective against cough and asthma.

Coltsfoot's expectorant activity stimulates the microscopic hairs that move mucus out of the airways. And, coltsfoot supresses production of platelet-activating factor, a protien that plays a role in triggering bronchospasms.Tiffany Schaibley <ericandtiffanys wrote:

Sorry Riki.

I would say cayenne immediately for him and Total Tonic. Astragalus, mullein and hawthorne berry wouldn't hurt either.

Hello everyone.......

Just joined the group today and would be most interested in knowing if

any members have helpful ideas or suggestions for someone dealing with

bad lungs due to a bout of near fatal Acute Respiritory Distress

Syndrome 14 years ago. Am also dealing with tinnitus. I'm learning and

totally enjoying Yoga and feel it's helping my breathing.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

abesneighbor
