Guest guest
dear group, thank you for this forum. my beloved boyfriend is having some serious health problems and he absolutely refuses to go to the hospital or see a doctor of any kind. he is extremely stubborn. he is 39 and for the past 10 years he has had blood in his stools. for the past week, it has intensified. he is losing so much blood (bright red) that he feels very dizzy to the point where the walls are spinning and his heart is beating funny. he is a chronic drinker and the bleeding is exacerbated by it. also caffeine exacerbates the bleeding. two days ago he drank a lot of coffee that made him so jittery that he said he needed to drink three 32-oz of beer to calm himself down. then the next day, he bled and bled and bled. he knows that alcohol and caffeine make him worse yet because he is addicted to alcohol (he had a traumatic childhood), he cannot stop. he is a professor at an esteemed university in a social science field and because of his PHd though non-health related he feels he is more learned than doctors. he thinks he has super-powers. however, he loves dr. weil and dr. perricone (even dr. laura!), yet he refuses to see an alternative practitioner for his bleeding. he says he will read to cure himself and he will abstain from alcohol. he always says this but he is always drawn back to alcohol. the irony to all of this is that other than his drinking, he is a very healthy person. he eats organically and naturally; he's into wild food. he also is a gym rat, plays basketball everyday, and lifts weights. despite his condition, he went to the gym yesterday and played bball hard. he was too weak to lift weights though. then when he came home, he sufferred greatly. he seems to think that if his body can play bball, then there is nothing wrong with him. his uncle died of alcohol-induced internal bleeding at age 59. he refused to get help, told no one of his condition until it was too late. my boyfriend is only 39 but i fear that his blood loss and extreme stubbornness is going to kill him. i am so sorry for this sad email, but can anyone offer me some advice? what can he do to help his bleeding? what can he eat? what supplements can he take? in summary 39-year-old male with these symptoms: toilet bowls full of bright red blood extreme dizziness arrythmia (heart beating incorrectly) he's an alcoholic and he's addicted to caffeine. he has normal stools, not diarrhea, says blood is on the end of his stools. thank you very much, cessy
Guest guest
Dear Cessay, I am a doctor working here in the republic of Ireland..I would like to offer a bit of advice..From reading your mail it appears to me that your boyfriend might have developed liver problems secondary to chronic drinking, namely cirrhosis, which can present with malaena basically which means " blood in stool " .He needs to stop drinking alcohol and needs to see a medical doctor to get his bloods examined..Loss of blood can result in anaemia which can explain the dizziness.Your boyfriend needs your support which I am sure he has but he also needs urgent medical advice..let god be with you and guide you through the process Bobby cessayshun <jenniferkbach wrote: dear group, thank you for this forum. my beloved boyfriend is having some serious health problems and he absolutely refuses to go to the hospital or see a doctor of any kind. he is extremely stubborn. he is 39 and for the past 10 years he has had blood in his stools. for the past week, it has intensified. he is losing so much blood (bright red) that he feels very dizzy to the point where the walls are spinning and his heart is beating funny. he is a chronic drinker and the bleeding is exacerbated by it. also caffeine exacerbates the bleeding. two days ago he drank a lot of coffee that made him so jittery that he said he needed to drink three 32-oz of beer to calm himself down. then the next day, he bled and bled and bled. he knows that alcohol and caffeine make him worse yet because he is addicted to alcohol (he had a traumatic childhood), he cannot stop. he is a professor at an esteemed university in a social science field and because of his PHd though non-health related he feels he is more learned than doctors. he thinks he has super-powers. however, he loves dr. weil and dr. perricone (even dr. laura!), yet he refuses to see an alternative practitioner for his bleeding. he says he will read to cure himself and he will abstain from alcohol. he always says this but he is always drawn back to alcohol. the irony to all of this is that other than his drinking, he is a very healthy person. he eats organically and naturally; he's into wild food. he also is a gym rat, plays basketball everyday, and lifts weights. despite his condition, he went to the gym yesterday and played bball hard. he was too weak to lift weights though. then when he came home, he sufferred greatly. he seems to think that if his body can play bball, then there is nothing wrong with him. his uncle died of alcohol-induced internal bleeding at age 59. he refused to get help, told no one of his condition until it was too late. my boyfriend is only 39 but i fear that his blood loss and extreme stubbornness is going to kill him. i am so sorry for this sad email, but can anyone offer me some advice? what can he do to help his bleeding? what can he eat? what supplements can he take? in summary 39-year-old male with these symptoms: toilet bowls full of bright red blood extreme dizziness arrythmia (heart beating incorrectly) he's an alcoholic and he's addicted to caffeine. he has normal stools, not diarrhea, says blood is on the end of his stools. thank you very much, cessy Try the all-new Mail . Guest guest
Hi Cessy...sorry to hear about your boyfriend having these problems. I can share with you what I know but I'm not a doctor or a certfified health professional. But I have had Crohns Disease for 28 years and I know something about how to handle internal bleeding without seeing a doctor. First and foremost, if he is losing blood on a regular basis, he probably isn't replacing it with iron supplements or blood transfusions; therefore, he is now likely suffering with iron- deficient anemia and if his hemoglobin levels are extremely low, he could be at extreme risk of heart failure, simply because his body won't have enough blood for it to pump and it could stop working. The last thing he should be doing is exercise or participating in sports to get it pumping right now. Secondly, alcolhol kills the friendly micro-flora in the intestines and constant drinking (or even a few drinks) can drastically alter that environment setting the stage for other more virulant forms of bacteria to gain a foothold. Once this occurs, it's very difficult to rectify the condition. But it can be done. Now I know he doesn't want to see a doctor but can you try to convince him he needs to get a blood test to determine his iron and hemogloblin levels? If they are low he could need a blood transfusion and/or iron supplements for a limited time. I highly recommend he does this before using the remedies below. Remind him if you must that this condition is unlike a flu or a common cold that can be waited out for it to pass, without seeing a doctor. His life could be in danger. With respect to internal bleeding, the best way I know to stop it is to consume a styptic or hemostatic herb. One such herb that I've taken before and which has been very effective is called Purple Loosestrife. It can be found wild in swampy areas throughout eastern U.S. and Canada and is considered a noxious weed, as it stangles the other plants in the area so it can dominate. If you can find it, you'll save some money by not having to buy it from a health food store, at a cost of around $6 per ounce, I believe. The best way to consume this herb is to prepare an infusion or a decoction, the latter being the more potent. For an infusion, steep 1 ounce of fresh herb in 1 cup of boiled water for 5 to 10 minutes. Slowly drink 1/2 cup twice per day For a decoction, boil 1 ounce herbs in 1 pint of water until 1 cup of liquid is left. Drink 4 Tbls. 3 times per day. Note that the decoction is more effective and more economical. Also do not add sugar if it needs sweetening; use honey instead. Secondly I suggest he stop drinking coffee and especially alcohol. There are several herbs that can curb his appetite for drinking. I won't list them all but one in particular is used for this purpose: Quassia wood, also known as Bitter wood or Bitter Ash. The tea is known to destroy ones appetite for alcohol. To prepare: steep 1 Tsp. herb in 1 cup of water. Consume 1 cup per day. As for his coffee consumption, has he tried any of the coffee substitutes, such as chicory, or products containing it? I know there are several available, most of which can be found in a health food store and some in a supermarket. I'm afraid that's all I have for you. I hope it helps. Another approach, in additon to herbal remedies, is to see a councelor specializing in addictions. At least then your boyfriend could get help to deal with it more permanently. All the best to you and yours, Richard , " cessayshun " <jenniferkbach wrote: > > dear group, > > thank you for this forum. my beloved boyfriend is having some serious > health problems and he absolutely refuses to go to the hospital or see > a doctor of any kind. he is extremely stubborn. > > he is 39 and for the past 10 years he has had blood in his stools. > for the past week, it has intensified. he is losing so much blood > (bright red) that he feels very dizzy to the point where the walls are > spinning and his heart is beating funny. > > he is a chronic drinker and the bleeding is exacerbated by it. also > caffeine exacerbates the bleeding. two days ago he drank a lot of > coffee that made him so jittery that he said he needed to drink three > 32-oz of beer to calm himself down. then the next day, he bled and > bled and bled. > > he knows that alcohol and caffeine make him worse yet because he is > addicted to alcohol (he had a traumatic childhood), he cannot stop. > > he is a professor at an esteemed university in a social science field > and because of his PHd though non-health related he feels he is more > learned than doctors. he thinks he has super-powers. however, he > loves dr. weil and dr. perricone (even dr. laura!), yet he refuses to > see an alternative practitioner for his bleeding. he says he will > read to cure himself and he will abstain from alcohol. he always says > this but he is always drawn back to alcohol. > > the irony to all of this is that other than his drinking, he is a very > healthy person. he eats organically and naturally; he's into wild > food. he also is a gym rat, plays basketball everyday, and lifts weights. > > despite his condition, he went to the gym yesterday and played bball > hard. he was too weak to lift weights though. then when he came > home, he sufferred greatly. he seems to think that if his body can > play bball, then there is nothing wrong with him. > > his uncle died of alcohol-induced internal bleeding at age 59. he > refused to get help, told no one of his condition until it was too > late. my boyfriend is only 39 but i fear that his blood loss and > extreme stubbornness is going to kill him. > > i am so sorry for this sad email, but can anyone offer me some advice? > what can he do to help his bleeding? what can he eat? what > supplements can he take? > > in summary 39-year-old male with these symptoms: > toilet bowls full of bright red blood > extreme dizziness > arrythmia (heart beating incorrectly) > > he's an alcoholic and he's addicted to caffeine. > he has normal stools, not diarrhea, says blood is on the end of his > stools. > > thank you very much, > > cessy >
Guest guest
I don't want to alarm you, but he should go to the doctor now. My brother was a heavy drinker and ended up with liver cancer as a result. What you describe are some of the symptoms he had. He died last October at the age of 34. He should at least be diagnosed so you know exactly what you are dealing with. Sherry L. I had it in a flowerbed once but got rid of it because there was such publicity about it being a noxious weed. Since the environment around my land is not right enough for it to escape to anyway, it just might go back in. I am obsessed with collecting healing plants. Meanwhile, if you can't find loosestrife, may I recommend Sangre de Drago. Amazing stuff, wound-healing inside and out and very astringent. Guest guest
Hi! Winsmir writing. There are actually severval astringent herbs that can be taken for internal bleeding, but I settled on Purpole Loosetrife (after trying some others), because it grew abundantly (and unwanted) in a park in Toronto. While practically bedridden, my then girlfriend went there and gathered 2 supermarket buggies full of the plant and brought it home to me for drying on my balcony. This was several years ago and I still have some left for emergencies (even gave some away long ago to someone in need). I'm not familiar with Sangre de Drago, but that's no surprise, since I'm not an herbalist (except by hobby or necessisity). The main books I refer to on herbalism are: The Way of Herbs by Micheal Tierra, and The Herb Book by John Lust. Most of what I need can be found in them and I highly recommend them. Guest guest
Sounds damned serious to me. He knows it is. Since he seems to want to read up on options, you might try shocking him a bit. Get a book or two on funeral customs and some literature for pre-planning funerals from a local funeral home, and tell him to read up on his options if he doesn't go to a doctor. Perhaps that might show just how concerned you are, and force the doctor issue. A bit drastic perhaps, but so is his health situation. Guest guest
First thing is he need to find another way to calm down. Perhaps some valerian or passionflower. He can try cayenne for healing. Taken internally it heals on it's way through. The hotter the better, but he need something line a tincture so he gets the taste of it. Tasting herbs is part of the healing process. But he really, really, really need to see a doctor to find out just what is bleeding. Susan , " morbid_vamp_soul " <morbid_vamp_soul wrote: > > Sounds damned serious to me. He knows it is.
