Guest guest
This is my first post as I just discovered this group recently. My 7yr old daughter was just diagnosed with Molliscum Contagiosum. Has anyone ever heard of this? She has been referred to a dermatologist, who I was lucky enough to get an appointment with next week (b/c there was a cancellation - otherwise I would have had to wait until Nov.!). Her pediatrician didn't seem too concerned, but mentioned some possible treatments I didn't care for - burning, freezing them off!! UGH! no way! Thank you for your assistance. Guest guest
Dear Mother, Not for the squeamish: I know of someone who had molliscum contagiosum after a trip to Greece, where they think they got them from sitting in a grimy bathtub (it was winter and it was cold), or from the unwashed horsehair blanket in a hotel where they later saw prostitutes bringing sailors. They developed a raised, red, pencil eraser shaped " mole " with a flat top. When it spread and became two several inches apart, They went to an OB/GYN, who was " old style. " He shaved and then cut with an exacto knife and pressed out the contents. Then he used antiseptic and bandages and gave the patient an antibiotic. He said that he had not seen one of those " in years " (war years?) but that they can quickly spread all over the stomach and body and it was good that they had come to see him. He said that was the only way to remove them reliably. This was in 1986. They asked about freezing them, not wanting to get cut, but he said it wouldn't work, and he anesthestized the skin before treatment. There was not much feeling (besides relief) and there was no blood. My friend pictured a little " molliscum " coming out and asked if it was a parasite and he said no, but that was just the name. (But maybe that would be a way to explain it to a young child.).My friend left the doctors office thanking God for the doctor knowing what to do. I would encourage you to print this and maybe show it to a doctor. But don't ignore it and let the disease spread. There may be less invasive procedures, but this one worked for sure. Hoping this helps
Guest guest
Thank you for your assistance. I found this site and another one which has a hemeopathic remedy which I order, and received today. It says not to use if allergic to shellfish, which my daughter has been tested to be allergic to shrimp, so I may try the other remedy. Has anyone had success with the medicines shown on the www.molliscum.com website? , " Ieneke van Houten " <ienvan wrote: > > http://molluscum.com > - > faith_m99 > > Tuesday, September 19, 2006 6:25 PM > Help: Molliscum Contagiosum?
